Posted by Rocky on Sunday, November 30 2003

Battalion Command have released their IP to Name Mapper tool that will assist with banning disruptive players even if they change names or have dynamic IP's. This will of course be of interest to anyone running a dedicated Ghost Recon server. Download the tool here, and check this discussion for details on the differences between registered and unregistered versions.

Thank You!
Posted by Rocky on Thursday, November 27 2003

I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to plan and contribute to a special Ghost Recon Community surprise for me on my Birthday yesterday. Little did I know that so many GhostRecon.net regulars and fans from across the community had been working away at a secret forum for many weeks, to organise a surprise visitor to hand deliver several gifts to me last night.

It made it a very special day for me, and I'll always remember it. The Logitech steering wheel gift is fantastic, as are all the other gifts, like magnumKP's Rocky mp3 and Silentnight's Rocky powerpoint presentation , the custom Rocky mousemat from the guys at =UE= and even the custom car for Nascar racing from NYR. I understand there are also some military challenge coins on their way from the USA from zjj, and a package from Ubi Soft! To all those that were so generous and donated for a gift, I plan on upgrading my ageing graphics card for something with a lot more punch - who knows I might need it soon for Ghost Recon 2!!

This truly is a gaming community like no other, thanks again to you all, Staff and fans alike, you are the best!

Free Russia
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, November 25 2003

Giwex has added a review for an oldie but a goodie - the Free Russia campaign by AV Apollo. This mod broke some new ground with its level of professionalism and new features when it was first released, and its missions have stood the test of time. So if you have not already enjoyed the delights that this custom Ghost Recon campaign has to offer, check Giwex's review here for full details.

I have also taken the opportunity to update this campaign's entry in the downloads database, and its listing in our Campaign Downloads section with working links to the most up-to-date version.

Best Custom Map Ever?
Posted by Rocky on Saturday, November 22 2003

There's a new mod on the horizon that is already being touted by some fans as possibly the best Ghost Recon custom map ever. That's quite an accolade considering some of the fantastic maps we have seen in the past.

Originally titled "Wilderness Castle" and started way back in July this mod comes from Deleyt and Zeko and is now called "White-Skull Valley". Progress since June has been steady, and produced some remarkable screenshots. You can follow the mods progress in this forum thread.

So, what's going to be so special about this mod? Apart from a remarkable new map that features 100% new textures, there will also be brand new weapons (by Lurch32), a new kit restriction aimed at promoting good gameplay, new multiplayer coop games (from AS Chavez), and new single player missions!

And that's not all. In a refreshing change that will please quite a number of Ghost Recon fans, this mod will run fine on stock Ghost Recon, without any mission packs. Not only that, the team behind this mod are also aiming to make this mod fully Mac compatible, which will please the surprising number of Mac Ghost Recon fans out there!

For more information please visit the Red Sector forums, why not post a few words of encouragement while you are there!

SR2004
Posted by Rocky on Friday, November 21 2003

A new co-op tournament appears on the horizon - Stealth Recon 2004 from Alpha Squad. A webpage has appeared here, and the official forum is open here, although there are no sign-ups permitted just yet.

SR2003 was a huge success, with the Bad Azz Danes eventually taking the title. BAD are currently running the Azz Cup which should end round about the time that Alpha Squad's SR2004 competition starts.

Alpha Squad have a proven track record for professionally run competitions, and of course they have some extremely talented mission scripters on board, so if you are at all interested in trying out at competitive co-op play, keep a close eye on this one!

GR2 & Ubi
Posted by Rocky on Wednesday, November 19 2003

RSE Expand
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, November 18 2003

Thanks to CR6 at GR-Retreat and Seojina for pointing out that the employee page at Red Storm Entertainment's website has grown somewhat recently. Around 4 new designers, 12 new artists and 9 new engineers appear to have been taken on recently.

One of the new designers is Rafael Chandler, who funnily enough used to sing in a band named to suit our sister site Aggression. Rafael used to work in QA with Electronic Arts and joined RSE last month. So what does he think of Red Storm and his new colleagues...

"Life at Red Storm is great. Dangerous, yes. Free doughnuts, free pizza, free soft drinks, free potato chips, free beer..... Another guy, he knows guns, inside and out. A shooter, a former soldier. I work with educated men, people who know things that matter. It's a great job."

Too right it's a great job! He's working with the team that gave us Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six... what's coming next we will just have to wait and see... not too long though hopefully!

More on GR2
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, November 18 2003

In the run up to Christmas you can expect to see more and more leakage regarding Ghost Recon 2. An unofficial Game Cube Europe site seems to be the first to acknowledge the existence of Ghost Recon 2...

"This game is a sequel to the popular Ghost Recon on PS2, Xbox, GameCube and PS2. Ghost Recon lets the player lead an elite team of U.S. Army Special Forces through the deadly realism of tomorrows battlefields."

GameCube expect to see Ghost Recon 2 sometime in 2004.

nGage [updated]
Posted by Rocky on Thursday, November 13 2003

Ghost Recon on Nokia nGage is coming, and you can help shape how it turns out. Gameloft are producing the title, and the game's Producer is looking for feedback for the Ghost Recon community. So, if you have an idea on what would transfer well to a bluetooth handheld gaming device - post your ideas in this discussion and you might very well see your suggestion incorporated in the final release version!

The latest information from the developer is quite exciting. Whereas as some handheld versions bear little resemblance to the original PC game, Gameloft are aiming to produce a miniature, portable, multiplayer Ghost Recon!

"Ghost is fully 3D rendered, with much of the effects you'd expect from a current FPS ... I think you'll be pleasantly surprised when the screenshots are released ... imagine Ghost Recon, ported ... for the original playstation, and then squished that down to fit on a smaller screen" Gameloft

Sounds very interesting, we look forward to publishing a definitive review when the game is released next year!

The mod comes with a comprehensive Readme file and can be download here. Forum discussion here.

SPR Review
Posted by Rocky on Monday, November 3 2003

Giwex has reviewed the campaign that was the start of a terrific series of campaigns from Jack 57 - Saving Pilot Ryan.

"Mission 4 is my favourite one: at the end of mission 3 you were told that Pilot Ryan and Commander Williams have been caught by the enemy. They have been imprisoned at the camp and you have to go (alone) to save them."

Read Giwex's full review in our mods review forum, here.

Azz Cup 2003
Posted by Rocky on Saturday, November 1 2003

Round One of the Bad Azz Danes Ghost Recon co-op tournament has just come to a close. As the leaderboard shows, the first mission was far from easy with most teams failing to complete any of the objectives. Congrats to the teams that managed to extract, and good luck to everyone for the next round!
