Long Haul 56K
Posted by Rocky on Tuesday, October 28 2003

Budgie's Long Haul mod we reported on yesterday has been getting some great feedback in the forums here.

"This Missions show me, GR is the BEST Tactic Shooter i`ve ever played " Sixpence
"Excellent work mate - you simply must do a campaign!" Jack 57
"These two missions really sparked my interest in Ghost Recon again" whoami88
"I gave it a 10/10" zantar45

The only complaint was that 56k'rs were missing out because the mod wieghed in at 160Mb. Budgie has addressed this though, and released an 18Mb version, stripped of the music and non-essential data - so download the 56K friendly version here!

Smart Tools

Javaman has released version two of Smart Tools for 3D Studio Max 4/5. With Smart Tools installed you'll have several tools available for modding features such as SFX maker, Water maker, Door maker, Stair maker, and New Level tool, amongst others. Download from here.

Long Haul
Posted by Rocky on Monday, October 27 2003

Budgie is a long time Forum member here at GhostRecon.net, and recently decided to take up the challenge of creating his own Ghost Recon mod. The challenge he set himself was to create a world where the mission did not evolve around the player, a true battlefield scenario.

"GR makes the player feel like the center of the universe. Bad guys wait for you and react to your movements alone. It is also quiet when the player isnt shooting. In this mod, the game goes on with or without you. The US will probably win the battle even if you do nothing."

Having played the mission, I can say he has achieved that objective, indeed the mission plays out quite differently to any other you may have played. The helicopter insertion is classic, riding along side other helicopters it is a very effective cinematic type entrance.

The music score has also been carefully included to maximise the drama. The only downside is that at 160Mb the mod is a rather large download for a two mission payload. With enough persuasion Budgie might release a dial-up friendly version, so feel free to post in our mods forum if you wish! In the meantime broadband users can grab the mod here.

GP25
Posted by Rocky on Saturday, October 25 2003

SOTO Phantm has added an interesting weapon attachment to the arms section today. The russian made GP25 can be found attached to the AK74 in Ghost Recon, and is used by the SPETSNAZ. The GP25 is capable of being fitted to many assualt rifles, and offers effective firepower for dynamic entries, territory clearing and open air assaults. Read full details and find two images in our report GP25 report here.

Prisoners!
Posted by zjj on Tuesday, October 14 2003

The Plot - A normal Joe Schmoe is abducted from his home while playing Ghost Recon. He finds himself at a beautiful website where everything is bright and cheerful - the people, their clothes, the buildings, the flowers. But despite this rosey exterior, the website serves a sinister purpose. People are forcibly brought there in order to have their valuable knowledge protected or extracted. Everyone at the Website is assigned a number instead of a name. Chief interrogator and administrator is Number Two, but he isn't the boss - an unseen Number One is the boss.

Failure is not tolerated at the Website. The Prisoners struggle to keep  information from their captors and to find out who runs the Website and where it is. They strive to discover the identity of Number One, and above all, they attempt to escape.  See here how it has affected the Website.
