ADF v3 Tuesday July 30 | Rocky
Australian Defence Forces V3 brings a host of new uniforms to the Ghosts from AUS_Viper. This mod took the unusual route of airmail to reach us at GhostRecon.net - but we are glad it did - these skins are very well done.
For more images download this image pack. All of the US soldiers have been replaced with ADF soldiers, and there are some great new Specialists including SASR troopers, SASR black clad Tactical Assault Group (TAG) troopers, and a 4RAR commando. The Russian troops are replaced with Indonesian soldiers and there are even a few red beret Kopassur special forces. Weapons are taken (with approval) from NMM Gunworks and =DRAG= mods - making this a pretty neat package, although it does weigh in at a hefty 32Mb. If you like what you see, grab it from here.

Lloyds MEU (SOC) Monday July 29 | Rocky
Eight new weapons and a new Marine Expeditionary Unit, that's what modding guru Lloyd has been preparing for Ghost Recon. Check out progress at Lloyds Mods. While you are there, check out Lloyds Weapons Mod 8, just released today! LWM8 has a unique system built in, as Lloyd explains :- "LWM8 was also built using a JavaScript weapons converter page which I will be posting to the site soon. Its an early version but it will allow you to plug in weapons data and info from your past (RS) mods and it converts the RS data to GR format which you can copy and paste into a text file and save as a .GUN for Ghost Recon."
Cool stuff, I'll post more news as the mod develops.

Direct Play Wednesday July 24 | XianSaint
The official Ghost Recon site has an addition to their forums that will likely please the fans that have been disgruntled with the UBI Game Service. This new forum, titled the Official Server Listing forum, provides a place for people to list their MP games, complete with server details and settings. Of course, GR.Net has had this feature in place for awhile, (as listed on the front page and in the Games Forum) but of course, the potential exists that some will choose to post there for whatever reason...so still useful to know that its there. Check it out here.

Gone Fishing Wednesday July 24 | Rocky
The Fishing Hole is a new map coming soon from Bob, here's how he describes it. "It is designed around a SAR or Hamburger Hill multiplayer game with a strong center point, which is a small island (about 50m x 50m) with a bunker centered in a fishing hole. There are 2 strong and 2 good start points in the "corners" of the map for the rest of the MP type games. "
Sounds like a fun map for multiplayer, although a single player mission will be included aswell. Expected release is the first week of August, until then - here's some screenshots. one | two | three | four

GR PS2 Tuesday July 23 | XianSaint
Well...You've seen the GR X-Box pics, now how about some Ghost Recon PS2 pics. Head on over to Gamespy and check them out. Not quite as good as the PC in my opinion...but I guess if you own a PS2 and no computer, some Ghost Recon is better than none at all.

Modding Videos Tuesday July 23 | XianSaint
In what may be the most innovative tutorials I've seen, Pain @WAR has posted in the weapons mods forum news that the @WAR Elite Team has provided "videos" to teach the basics of modding. It appears there are at least five different clips available, each touching on a different aspect of modding. The one I downloaded was 11.5 MB and was great. I did have to install the codec that comes packaged with the file...the Ghost Recon community definitely appreciates the hard work and dedication from mod teams like @WAR. Thanks Guys! Check it out here.

SBTO-GR v1.8 *updated* Friday July 19 | XianSaint
Apologies to 0G Zero Gulf. Somehow his mission file didn't make it into our mission contest, which is really too bad because he would've been a top contender. SBTO is by far, one of the greatest mission mods I have ever had the pleasure of playing. "The Goal of Squad Based Tactical Operations (SBTO) Training is to create Squad Cohesion, Skills and Trust." Eight full missions of some of the toughest combat you've ever faced in Ghost Recon. The last mission is simply marvelous. Pick up this superb mission pack here. It's a must have so don't miss it.

Castle Thursday July 18 | Rocky
Low Profile is working flat out on his Rogue Spear conversion of Castle, but has taken time out to prepare a neat photo gallery showing progress, check it here. These images were taken just after LP started work on lighting the map, and they look great. Another 28 images will be added as more progress is made. Expect to see this map released in around 3 weeks. There are a couple interesting things to note about this promising conversion. Firstly a lot of time was spent on the Keep, which had a design flaw in the original files. This meant that sometimes the enemy outside could actually see you inside. LP has corrected those, and altered the design of the Keep to add a new dimension for those already familiar with the layout. Another gameplay decision taken by LP was to carefully position of the sun, affording the courtyard more shadows which should help when crossing the open area of the courtyard. The attention to detail in this mod is hard to take in, it's going to be another "must have" download from Low Profile!

Weapons Modding Wednesday July 10 | Rocky
Modding Ghost Recon weapons properly is not an altogether easy task. With damage statistics, velocity formulae and effective ranges, it can be a whole mess of numbers. Luckily Parabellum has put together an extremely detailed report that should help modders when it comes to the detailed calculations involved. This is a superb report, but if you need further assistance you can reach Parabellum in our Weapons forum. If it is weapon modelling you are interested in , don't miss this remarkable post by Earl, detailing a trick he uses to achieve his truly awesome weapon models, and this new fearsome looking weapon from Yodasplat.

X-Box Movie Tuesday July 02 | Rocky
Ghost Recon's appearance on the X-Box is not far away, and in the build up Ubi soft have released a short quicktime movie to get console gamers excited. You can grab it from Ubi Soft, or Peacemaker's mirror. A couple of things I noticed included a re-worked HUD, and the obligatory cool movie sequence that consoles are so fond of. It's about 18Mb, check it out.

Ausiguy's Crisis Tuesday July 02 | Rocky
Ausiguy has just released his Caribbean Missile Crisis Map for Desert Siege. There are a couple of things to note about this map, it's big, and it's big. Physically, it's twice the size of any other Ghost Recon map, at a whopping 800 x 800 metres. Secondly it's a big download - weighing in at 32Mb. The download server is being hit quite hard right now, so don't expect a fast download. I have just put a mirror up here, for your convenience. There are 4 maps in this pack, and the big one is highly detailed and a heavy draw on resources, you'll need a decent PC to see it at it's best. There are some nice touches like window blinds you can open, and nice texture work, but make sure you read the readme for important information. Ausiguy runs a dedicated server for this, and other popular maps, check out his webpage for more details. You can check feedback in this discussion.

Low Profile's KH Double Monday July 01 | Rocky
Good news, Low Profile just gave me the go ahead to release his Rogue Spear conversion of Killhouse Double. Grab the file here, and check out how true it is to the original, it's exact. Some improvements include wall geometry fixes, light fittings don't poke through the floor above, and a neat change to the way doors close. Low Profile has introduced a delay in the door movement to prevent that annoying "door in face" situation where closing doors used to inevitably lead to players getting stuck momentarily. As a bonus, Low Profile also gave me a look at his ritualistic pre-release clearance, where he clears his new maps in as perfect a manner as possible. What is interesting about this replay is that not only does it show that Low Profile plays a mean Ghost Recon as well as modding a mean map, but just check how much ammo he has left right at the second he takes out the last terrorist, perfection.
