XM8 Armoury Posted by Rocky on Thursday, April 28 2005
Version 2 of the awesome XM8 Armoury by Snowfella and Lancer is out, and what an amazing pack of weapon models it is. The XM8 Armoury has been worked on for well over a year and the quality really shines through, check these images posted by Lancer for example.

This mod contains the silenced and unsilenced variants of the current XM8 project in very cool woodland and desert camouflage. Also included are M25 grenade launcher, M249 with Elcan, M29, M107, SR25, MP5, MP7, AT-4, M240G, M9, L85 and an L96.

There are two downloads, one for PC and one for Mac.

If this mod makes you want to download more work by Snowfella, check out his Shrike mod too, or his texturing tutorial. The upcoming Trainride mod will also feature models by Snowfella.

SectionOne Posted by Rocky on Monday, April 25 2005
Section One is a brand new mission pack from Mamon, including some great weapon models and vehicles from some top name Ghost Recon modders. With the missions Mamon has tried to find a nice balance of stealth and combat missions.

This is Mamons last Ghost Recon mod, so as long as you have both expansion packs, download it, enjoy it! If you want to play Mamon's other missions you can also try his earlier Civil War mission pack which has amassed well over 6000 downloads.

Turkmenistan Posted by Rocky on Wednesday, April 20 2005
In Turkmenistan the Ghosts find themselves part of a larger force fighting over 20 missions. TrenchSoldier scripted these missions to be all action for the most part, giving the Ghosts a well earned rest from all that stealth they are used to.

"Just like real world battlefields, in this mod the operation take hours or even days until final decision. One operation often takes two or three missions in sequence, on the same map. Sometimes, even on different maps, like convoy escort."

Download here, requires both expansions packs!

Scabb Island Posted by Stalker on Monday, April 18 2005
This is maybe one of the most original mods I have seen so far. Susan Grey, one of the ghosts, is on holidays on Scabb Island but gets "disturbed" by some bad guys. The only solution is to take the MP5 and show them how to fight. The mod includes a 5 mission campaign with nice cinematic scenes and voiceovers. Download the 86MB mod from BigBoss[BEK] over at ATWAR.net .

Multimission Posted by Rocky on Thursday, April 14 2005

Random Missions Posted by Rocky on Wednesday, April 13 2005
Harntrox has come back out of nowhere with a superb new Ghost Recon mod that has replayability at its heart. What this pack does is create random missions for every Ghost Recon map, you can read all the details here. It's pretty clever stuff and will offer Ghost Recon squads some excellent training; no longer will squads become familiar with training maps and lose that edge, every time you play, it will be very different. Not only that, it also allows 27 player coop!

The icing on the cake is that this mod is only 2Mb in size, and does not require either of Ghost Recons expansion packs, so everybody can enjoy it! Download at Fileplanet. More explanation and forum discussion can be found here.

Ghost Recon 1 wins! Posted by Rocky on Monday, April 11 2005
Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine gave the original Ghost Recon and GR.net the thumbs up this month in the USA. Thanks to Xian Saint for sending us the details - check it out. They ran a feature on which games maintained strong communities even after sequels were published, they called it "Out with the new and sticking with the old". They gave Ghost Recon 1 top marks and had this to say...

"Despite the recent release of Ghost Recon 2, the original maintains a very enthusiastic fanbase, as evidenced by the deluge of GR1 posts showing up daily on the Ghostrecon.net forums. What's missing from the follow up? Ironically many players cite the differences in single-player mode as their main criticism. As one fan puts it "GR1 has more openness - open maps, open ended mission completion, and freedom of movement."

Congratulations to forum regular Kurtz - that's his quote they have published! On a day when we've had Ghost Recon 2 for the PC snatched from our grasp due to its cancellation, this is a nice pat on the back to you folks who have kept this community so strong for so long. Ghost Recon 2 PC is dead, Long Live Ghost Recon!

GR2 PC Cancelled Posted by Rocky on Monday, April 11 2005
Ubisoft have finally announced they have cancelled Ghost Recon 2 for the PC. The silver lining to the cloud, is that they are promising there will be a Ghost Recon 3 for the PC, and it will be worth the wait, and it is coming soon. This is what Ubi's Community Manager in the UK had to say today.

"...we were forced to conclude that it was in the interest of gamers for us to cancel the PC version of Ghost Recon 2. But Ghost Recon 3 on PC will hit shelves the fourth quarter of 2005, so the wait won’t be long, and will definitely be worth it."

Hack Cam Posted by Rocky on Saturday, April 9 2005
There's a new kid on the block when it comes down to dealing with the menace of gaming cheats! Where Hack Cam differs from other anti-cheat code is that it shuns cheat detection in favour of cheater detection. To learn more about how that subtle difference is potentially going to rock the online gaming community read our exclusive interview with the sole developer of this exciting new software - OutOfAmmo.

"why search for the thousands of cheats available, when you can just search for what they do?  That's the principle around which HC has been designed."

In our interview OutOfAmmo explains exactly how Hack Cam identifies cheaters and why honest players have nothing to fear from this new technology.

Operation Darkstar Review Posted by Stalker on Friday, April 1 2005
I have completed a review for blakarion's Operation Darkstar, a total conversion released in December 2004. The heart of the mod is the 14 mission campaign but also the rest is great. Read the full review for Operation Darkstar
