As the release of Earl's Spetsgruppa Vympel mod nears, we've taken a close look at this eagerly awaited Ghost Recon mod, and it's looking great! Ride in Heli's! Saturday October 05 | Rocky

Yep that's right! If you have Island Thunder prepare to take your Ghosts somewhere they have never been before - the skies! Thanks to some inventive modding from Two Point you can shoot from helicopters and boats!

There are two missions in this pack, the first has you circling Island Village in a boat picking off the bewildered rebels on the beach. In the second mission you control the Ghosts as they deploy from a beach landing, hitch a lift in a truck, and jump on board an awaiting heli before flying around the island!

This being the very first mod to offer these new features, it is not perfect and has a couple of issues, but it's great fun and a step toward some great new campaigns - great work Two Point. Visit Two Point's clan here and discuss this new feature in our forums here.

GR Mods on DVD Friday October 04 | Rocky

Over the past few weeks I've been working with PC Gamer (Europe) to get some of the biggest and best Ghost Recon mods on their covermount DVD. In doing so, we hope to spread top Ghost Recon mods to gamers with either no net connection, or slow unstable connections that can make even the thought of downloading large mods an unpleasant prospect. Over the next few issues we hope to release hundreds of megabytes of Ghost Recon mods.

This week the first collection of mods appeared in the November edition of PC Gamer Europe. For full details of the mods, including a brand new bug-fixed version of Black Sun, check this page. The December edition will have another selection of Ghost Recon mods, more details on that nearer the time!

The second pack from Two Point is Hardcore, a pack of 4 Desert Siege coop missions that pack a punch. Two Point tells me they are possible in single player, but it aint gonna be easy!

(Un)Official Mod Resource Thursday October 03 | Rocky

Another modding resource sprang to life today when John Sonedecker launched his JSTools site. After many years as a Red Storm employee John left them this week for another venture, however he has lept beyond the call of duty and launched this site just for Ghost Recon modders!

John already has some new tools available to help with using 3d Studio Max, and you can download them directly from his site. If anyone is good with paintshop - drop him a line, he needs some icons! Ignacio has started a discussion in our forums here.

Johns isn't the only semi-official modding resource of course, there is also some detailed modding tutorials available at Piggyson's site.
