Summary

Make no mistake, Island Thunder is a challenge. The enemy AI is extremely sharp - to the point that a realism mod will probably be released from the GR modding community before long; I'm not sure how realistic it is to have rebels continually hitting the target at 200 metres+ with AK assault rifles! However, this being the second expansion pack perhaps an increase in difficulty is merited, it wouldn't be much fun in there was no challenge!

Some of the missions were challenging on their own merit, and the variety was excellent. No doubt there may be some who cry "more of the same" as far as the missions go, but I think that would be unjustified. From defending the voting stations, to Search and Destroy missions, or Search and Capture, each mission holds its own and fun to play.

The sound and graphics were great. From the misty gloomy jungle to the bright seashore or concrete jungle urban settings there was a variety that was refreshing and enjoyable. The sounds as usual were spot on, especially in the jungle where the animal chatter and general jungle buzz was utterly convincing, great stuff.

What's also neat is the longevity of the series is again enhanced by the inclusion of new modding options which amongst other things allow modders to control vehicles movements, including helicopters.

If you are looking for value for money, you can't go wrong with Island Thunder, it is a great package. If you are looking for a challenge, look no further! If you are looking for cool new maps, great new game types, new weapons, new sounds or a new way to lose your evenings and weekends, get Island Thunder - a worthy addition to the Ghost Recon series.
