Bold Venture

Bold Venture v1 is now ready for first beta.

The map is built on a clean version of the mission 04 landscape.

By popular demand the car bombs (smart IED's) are once again in this new mission.

As is now the norm this map includes to brand new custom built buildings, the first is a complete remake of the city office which includes a full interior with 7 stories, the second is again a remake of the industrial residence, you will also find the two new buildings from my previous map included in this one.

This mission has been several weeks in development as I had many problems getting the new city office to lightmap correctly, as it has so many floors all of which are accessible there were a lot of light/dark patches on the building after rendering the lightmaps, after much trial and error creating the Unwrap UVW in max most of these patches are now gone, it's not perfect but it's the best I can get it.

I also had problems with lightmapping the landscape, for some reason about one third of the map was completely black after rendering the lightmaps, I was unable to correct this problem so the only answer was to create my own lightmap in photoshop, the downside to this is there are some buildings where the ground is to bright when you enter them.

Here are two pictures of the new buildings:

I hope you enjoy the mission,

Test play completed w/ a K/D ratio of 571:4 on hard mode. No major bug encountered.

After restarting the map, player character are incorrectly spawned at the last checkpoint. Not suspected to be the map/mission's bug, though.

P.S. No helis appeared. Aren't there any?

Hi Candy,

Thanks for testing the mission so quickly.

I didn't add any havoc's as it's quite a complex map/mission, when testing I was getting 70-90 fps which is lower than my usual so I thought some of you with lower spec machines may get some lag, as we have seen before the havoc's can cause problems.

I will wait and see if anyone reports any lag, if not I will add a few to the mission.

Cheers,

John

Hi John,

it's fantastic to see another one from you. Wow, the buildings are very interesting and we believe it was much work to create them.

We could not wait to see them from inside so we did just a quick test to check the performance at the beginning.

Weapon screen at beginning client 1 = 90fps and after 1 minute it was 170fps

Weapon screen at beginning client 2 = 75fps and after 1 minute it was 160fps

Starting the mission and shooting the way to the church was 40-55fps

Then we saw your new buildings and we liked them. The only problem are your old style wallpapers at UK

Also it was great to fight through all the levels to find and release the hostage.

Inside of these buildings we had about 25-29fps which was still good but thanks for using no helicopters at this time.

We was surprised of the UK eye catchers again (wallpapers) :P

Erika found a place to rest a little bit

LazyErika.jpg

She like to send you special greetings and is asking for the direction to the beach!

We could not go further because we was out of time but what we have seen was made very good without any issues.

New buildings are very nice with all the wallpapers and furnitures.

Also it very interesting to fight the way up to the hostage.

It's looking like another awesome map/mission!

Hi John!

I must say that this map is just briliant! :D

How did you know what kind of missions I like?

New building are just great and inside view remind me one mission from GR (this one with heli crash in Russia lol), hmm old good times ;)

Unfortunatelly i havn't found bugs or other issues... it's really bad for us because you don't need us anymore :(

I'm really impressed of balance which you create for easy mode, the number of enemies, difficulty of level and plesure of match are on very high level for me, it's just perfect solution.

At first time I started test on my virtual PC dedicated server, and i think one more moving object and my server could freeze  ,

it's good idea to not use havocs, because it can kill most of dedicated servers.

I noticed, that after destroy one tank (right way) the server was back to live ;).

Unfortunatelly I didn't finished the dedicated test because my sever kicked me (I think I'm bad player) and I star again on the LAN server, where everything was in perfect order.

The snipers were alive, same as patrols and campers.

Excellent work, I see you spent alot of time to create new buildings and landscape, but this what I sow is worth of it !!!

Ohhh I forgot, my server reload the map propertly, I started new match where I should to start.

Many thanks for new excelent map and mission,

Greetings,

Daro.

Thanks for the feedback.

Kaapo, I was thinking that you may have some lag in this mission but it looks like you didn't have to many problems which is a pleasant surprise.

Everything about the UK is "old style" so to us the wallpaper I used is quite modern.

I couldn't find a good beach for Erika so I thought the next best thing would be a balcony and sun loungers for her to have a break. <_<

Daro, thanks for taking the time to test the mission, I know you are busy on your own mod so I didn't expect you to test mine.

Pleased you enjoyed the mission, I try to create a good balance between the hard and easy mode as it's often nice to play a mission with less AI as you can take you time and enjoy the view.

Looking at Kaapo's frame rate his lowest was around 25fps so I think it's best to leave the havoc's out of this mission, IMO I don't think it needs them anyway.

Cheers,

John

Hi John,

Friday, Fischer and I tested the map on my online created server and unfortunately my game crashed just before we could go for the Roadblock. We decided to play the map on the MIB server where we completed the map without any problems.

Yesterday Fischer, MIB_Dr.Who, MIB_Robin-DK and I tested the map again on the MIB server and everything worked just fine. We couldn't find any bugs or whatever and we didn't have any lag. Everything was triggered fine and fast and cleaning up the high buildings was fun to do. Nice job with those buildings and also with the furniture you put in all the rooms.

Most snipers are triggered very good, even from long distance but some could be triggered a bit faster, like the snipers near to the Air Defence. They could be triggered a bit sooner.

Maybe you could make the AI be triggered in a more agressive way, like you did in condor. That makes the map even more challenging.

The IEDs are just as tricky as in the previous maps which is good and keeps everyone sharp.

But in all the map is awesome to play. You did a fine job again

Cheers John,

Rico

Hi John,

P*E*R*F*E*C*T !!!

No lags, no issues and no boring. We had fantastic 4 hours an d played as always on hard - dedicated LAN server.

Sometimes, when we walked in to a trap again, we felt that you are a little bit sadistic  - But this means you placed the traps perfect and it's always a surprise!

Thank you John

John,

Another perfect map!! I love the new buildings. The windows are what make them great. They create so many angles of fire and present so many tactical opportunities while making the players more vulnerable to enemy fire. I played single player on Easy mode and saw no issues whatsoever. The AI were lightning fast and I had no lag. I really like the large buildings and had fun clearing them out. I can't get enough of that "in your face" action. I like the way these "hotels" were layed out in that several players can go in and still take part in the action by simply moving up the stairs to the next floor if the current one is too crowded. It would be nice to have floor numbers though, in case someone gets taken out before they can clear a floor. It would aid with communication with the rest of the squad.

The placement of the AI was superb and extremely devious! Magnificent!

On the downside ....... whoever owns those hotels need to hire an interior decorator! The wall paper is hideous!!

Cheers,

Rahn

Thanks for the replies folks.

As always I really appreciate your feedback. It looks like the new trigger arrangement has gone some way to reduce the lag as I'm now able to place more AI on the map without using more game resources.

Rahn, pleased you enjoyed the mission, as Daro mentioned the interior wallpapers remind me of GR so I thought you would like them but I will have a word with my interior designer.

Kaapo said the map wasn't boring so I wonder if he has been reading the comments in the downloads on my latest release Operation Condor, two of them mentioned that my maps are getting boring or repetitive and also lack creativity, if anyone else thinks this then I'm always open to suggestions for improving them.

Next mission is progressing well and will include 4 new buildings plus a new feature for one of the objectives and a slightly different way of giving you objective information.

Many thanks,

John

Hi Ebk,

Good to see you on the forums again.

I have fixed the link in my first post, for some reason the file was deleted by Mediafire.

This mission is now ready for release so I will get this done in the next few days, I will be posting a new mission soon.

Cheers,

John
