If Codemasters manage to pull this one off, we could be looking at something not seen on the PC for a very long time. While other mainstream developers
and publishers are fervently ignoring the hardcore shooter brigade (just look at the dilution of the Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six franchises), Codemasters are showing a keen awareness that their former audience haven't gone away; they've just gone unloved for far too long.

The above quote is by Will Porter while previewing OFP:2

Nice find. Wonder if Will Porter reads these forums? :P

I wonder if Codemasters will even pull it off. Oh and for some reason, I think I've also read something similar for ArmA2. Hopefully, all this hype won't end becoming a competition on who can make the better graphics. (as what happens in most games <_<)

One more thing:

I applaud that website for actually giving the job of previewing the game to someone who is experienced on the genre. I've witnessed countless times when a major gaming website randomly chooses one of his employees to review delicate genres like tactical-shooters and end up submitting a review that does nothing but rant about every aspect of the game because he found it "too hard".

Finally a previewer that obviously is from a generation where Tac-Shooters were Tac-Shooters. Not those young peeps that actually consider the new Clancy-Titles tactical.
Good to see that he noticed those changes which take my hopes in [OFP: DR] to a higher level, when those words come from someone, that sees the same thing in the new generation of "Tactical" gaming.

I love how he takes out punches on all the so called Tactical games these days.

there's that concept of absolute realism - an absolute tonic in this age of auto health regeneration and easy-access save points, and a sharp reminder that PC gaming can be something more than what we're so often presented with.

Sounds promising, that those things, that should be standard are slowly coming back with [OFP: DR], Ground Branch and ArmA 2. Finally a time in the near future, where I can really look forward to!

I appreciate the reviewer's attitude to the tac-shoot genre and enthusiasm of [OFP: DR], but this review is very old and back then we knew almost nothing about the game, other than the PR talk, so ... I'm still not too optimistic about this title...

I'm just curious, why would you not be optimistic about it? I have seen no signs of Codemasters moving in the wrong direction. I have no doubts about how good the simulation and gameplay will be; the only thing I'm worried about is that it will be yet another application that no pc can run until 3 years after it is released.

I envy your optimism, but I think we have a major difference in attitude toward games. There are very few games (let alone "tactical" games) these days that I'm optimistic about, and [OFP: DR] so far shows nothing that would make me enthusiastic. All we have is dev promises, some pictures and a name, which can still easily mean a bad game as far as I think.

I can understand that (whilst being optimistic about [OFP: DR]) - We all know that Ubisoft really is convinced that it is the truth when they sell R6 Vegas and Vegas 2 as "Tactical-Shooters", but the difference for me is the fact that it is Codemasters talking, not Ubisoft. Unlike Ubisoft (yeah enough with the bashing already) which seems to have a distance view of reality, Codemasters knows what is at stake here and when I take a look at the ToCa Race Driver series they knew what fans demanded - the same idea, just updated and they know that this is what fans expect of [OFP: DR].
