This is a total conversion mod based on the Danish Forces. The original mod idea was started by CMH, but he was unable to finish the skins. So I took the project on and now the mod has become more than just a skin pack.
I'm going for a high level of realism in this mod, so, for example, the missions will only take place where Danish Forces are actually currently deployed.
What's going to be in this mod?
First things first, let me just say that this mod will actually be three mods packaged together as one mod. Those three mods will be: "Royal Danish Army", "Jægerkorpset" and "Frømandskorpset". I'll explain about these three mods in a bit. The three mods will all be packaged into one mod codenamed "Danish Forces". Two of those mods will not be independent of each other, so to speak; to use the Jægerkorpset specialists, you will need the Royal Danish Army mod activated alongside the Jægerkorpset mod; to use the Frømandskorpset specialists, you will need the Royal Danish Army mod activated alongside the Frømandskorpset mod. However, the Royal Danish Army mod can be used on it's own, and having the Jægerkorpset and Frømandskorpset mods activated at the same time, whether activated alongside the Royal Danish Army mod or not), will cause conflicting issues.
Cool, three for the price of one, haha! Tell me more about what's going to be in the Royal Danish Army mod
OK, I'll write a list below, and further information below some bullet points
- First and foremost: Royal Danish Army skins (woodland and desert).
With the skins I'm going for a very wide variation, kinda. Let me explain: I have two reg. Danish woodland sniper skins with ghillies, and I have four different colour woodland ghillies. So two skins times four ghillies - that's eight reg. sniper skins. I also plan to make even more sniper skins, changing things like gloves, adding mud, giving some balaclava's etc. So in the end, I'll have somewhere in the region of something like 40 odd reg. sniper skins, and they will all use the default GR sniper character model.... But it doesn't end there with the sniper skins side of things.... I also have reg. snipers with boonies and ghillies, some with just boonies, some with just balaclava's..... It will much the same kinda thing for the other soldier classes.... I'm updating some of CMH's original skins and I'm also making some new skins.
So as you can see, there will be a wide variation with the skins side of things....
- Royal Danish Army specialists.
Twelve new specialists, there will even be exclusive weapons only available to specialists.
- Royal Danish Army weapons.
The entire range of weapons that the Royal Danish Army use will be at your disposal. But I'm going for a wide variation with the kits too. Allow me to explain: Er.... hows the best way for me to explain this? Well, basically, ever soldier will only have one primary weapon available to them. Alot of them may have the same primary weapons, but their secondary weapons (pistol, claymore, grenades etc) will differ from the soldier next to him/her. So for example, on the soldier roster, rifleman #1 might have Diemaco C7 for primary and can select either pistol or grenades for secondary; rifleman #2 might have Diemaco C7 for primary and can select either extra ammo, sensor or AT4 for secondary.
And I'm going even futher than that.... Not every rifleman will have the Diemaco C7, some will have the C8, some will have the C7/M203 etc; some will have an Elcan scope on their Diemaco rifle, some won't. It's much the same for all of the weapons in this mod. Let's take the sniper rifles for instance, Royal Danish Army snipers use the MSG90. Some snipers will have MSG90 with five round mag and bipod, some will have five round mag but no bipod, some snipers will have MSG90 with 20 round mag and bipod, some will have 20 round mag but no bipod etc.
This whole thing that I'm doing for the kits will be present throughout the three mods.
- Two campaigns.
Yes you heard me correctly, two campaigns. As I've already said, the missions will only take place where Danish Forces are actually currently deployed (the missions will be in the present day. Let me talk about the two campaigns below.
Right, the first campaign will take place in Bosnia. The story goes that there has been a new enemy uprising in Bosnia. This is no ordinary uprising. An enemy uprising on this scale has never taken place before in Bosnia. A new wave of violence and attacks on coalition forces has swept all across Bosnia. It is possbile that the Bosnian/Serbian rebels have this time got help from an outside force....
The second campaign will take place in Afghanistan, but I haven't though up a storyline for this one yet. BTW, in some missions you may be inserted alongside (or sent to assist, etc) other coalition forces, or Jægerkorpset etc.
- New intro, outro, credits and between-mission videos.
- New menu screens and alot of new sounds.
Well, Jægerkorpset means "Danish Hunter Corps", they are Danish elite Special Forces and are comparable to Delta Force, SAS etc. They use slightly different weapons to the Royal Danish Army.
The Jægerkorpset mod will not be a total conversion - it will only have twelve new characters (specialists). This is purely for the sake of realism.... In real life, there's only about 80 - 100 soldiers in the Jægerkorpset, and there's way more than 100 soldiers to choose from in GR.
Also, due to lack of native helicopters etc, Jægerkorpset operators are often seen being inserted/exfil'd by helicopters of other nations (I'm not sure whether they are piloted by Danish pilots though), like the Black Hawk, Chinook and Puma. So expect to see this in the mod.
Now, let me tell you what's going be in the Jægerkorpset mod:
- Twelve Jægerkorpset specialists, with woodland and desert skins.
Jægerkorpset operators wear protecs etc. Most of them wear the standard Danish flecktarn camo, however, I have seen pics of some wearing standard olive green jackets and standard US Army Goretex jackets (while on operations) with Danish flecktarn camo trousers. I've even seen pics of some them wearing caps instead of protecs.... So expect to see all of this in the Jægerkorpset mod.
- New missions.
Some of the missions that you carry out as Jægerkorpset operators will "cross over" with the Royal Danish Army missions. For example - some missions in the Royal Danish Army mod you previously played the role of Royal Danish Army soldiers, but (AI controlled) Jægerkorpset were present, and you task was to provide security etc for them.... Well, you will now play those missions as Jægerkorpset operators while the (AI controlled) Royal Danish Army are providing security etc. I hope you understand what I mean here. There will be some brand new missions too.
We're looking at making the missions so you can only select from Jægerkorpset operators to carry out the missions. Again, this is for realism purposes (selecting one Jægerkorpset operator and say two standard Royal Danish Army soldiers for fire teams A and B would not be realistic).
- More new weapons (slightly different to the ones the Royal Danish Army use).
However, in this mod, Jægerkorpset operators will be able to choose from two primary weapons, well basically one primary, but silenced and unsilenced versions.
- New menu screens and alot of new sounds.
Frømandskorpset means "Frogman Corps", these guys are Danish Navy SeALS. They are comparable to US Navy SeALs. Their weapons load outs differ very slightly different weapons to the weapons that the Royal Danish Army and Jægerkorpset use.
Here's what'll be included in the Frømandskorpset mod:
- Six (possibly twelve) Frømandskorpset specialists, with woodland and desert skins.
Frømandskorpset operators wear almost exactly stuff as the Jægerkorpset operators (protecs and all), but, I haven't actually seen any pics of Frømandskorpset operators wearing protecs in woodland, instead they were wearing woodland boonies. All the pics I've seen of Frømandskorpset operators out in Afghanistan show them wearing desert protecs.
Note: these won't be frogmen skins like wearing breathing apparatus and scuba suits etc, these are skins of them wearing their field suits.
- A few new missions.
In all missions, your team of Frømandskorpset operators will primarily be inserted by raiding craft.
- More new weapons (slightly different to the ones the Royal Danish Army use).
However, in this mod, Frømandskorpset operators will be able to choose from only one primary weapon, which will be primarily silenced.
- New menu screens and alot of new sounds.
At this moment in time, it's difficult for me to say for certain. I have a lot of RL stuff to care of. Bad things can happen when you don't bother to take care of RL stuff ASAP. I'm speaking from experience. This RL stuff is reducing my time working on the mod right now. I'm determined not to let it stop me working on this mod forever. I wouldn't have taken this mod project on if I couldn't finish it.
Anyway, do you have any screenies yet?
Sorry, no screenies yet. Several people have been asking for screenies, and I'm holding back on posting any screenies right now - which there's a very good reason for: I'm waiting for some content to arrive from some of the other modders on this project. Afterall, I'm not going to post screenies with the soldiers in this mod using default GR M16's (the Diemaco's should be ready soon) because that wouldn't be realistic! I hope to be posting some screenies either by the end of the week or early next week.
Stay tuned,
~Jameson (WD)
- Mod Update: There won't be any skins/additional content for Island Thunder.... This is for the sake of realism; the Danes currently don't have their troops deployed in any places where there's jungle environments.
