blakarion.
Operation: Dark Star This is the third in a series of Mods that have a continuing plot line thru them, starting with Operation: Snake Strike and then continuing with Operation: After Shock. These Mods follow the exploits of Ghost Team A9 and the operations they get sent on while chasing a shadowy organization, which is revealed more fully in Operation: Dark Star. Background This Mod is set in 2005, in the Democratic but fractured state of Indonesia. After a decidedly flawed general election, an unpopular but resilient government controls Indonesia - one of the world’s major Trade links, where approx 40 % of Trade flows thru at one time or another. This, coupled with one of the largest moderate Muslim population’s in the world, means that the U.S administration cannot let the new government founder against the fresh uprising that has started to threaten Indonesia’s integrity. The Western half of the Indonesian archipelago A small task force of Naval and Marine forces has been sent to the troubled country and with the events beginning to make the disturbances escalate into a full blown uprising, Ghost Team A9 is sent as apart of the reinforcements. This is where the Mod starts…… Mod Details Although not a modeler myself, several top modelers have given me permission to use there work in Operation: Dark Star. Amongst these are =MM= Shadow, Streinger, Yodasplat, Snowfella etc to name a few. This had made this Mod have a good blend of new-future weapons at the Teams disposal, for instance M8’s, Mk46 mod 0’s, M82 SASR, etc as well as some old favorites like the M4a1 SD’s, M4/M203, MP7 SD etc. Also vehicles such as the M113, BOV, Little Bird and more are featured in the Mod. *** Since originally posting this the Models have changed, with many new Vehicles and weapons, now in the Mod - done by myself *** A locally built Armoured Car Currently standing as a 32 Meg download (unwrapped 110 Meg), Operation: Dark Star is a 14 Mission Campaign, featuring extensive missions with cinematics and seven Heroes can be unlocked, each with their own blend of weapons and equipment. A blend of stealth and good old gun’n’run should keep all players happy. Also included are new skins, weapons, vehicles, music, reticules etc and also EMU’s ! Gallery Although by no means complete, here are a few pics of the weapons, skins etc. This is Fred, one of the Heroes which you unlock during play. He is shown with his preferd Mk46 Mod 0 SD Light Machine Gun. This one of the 'basic' classes, the Ghost Team A9 Rifleman. He is shown with a M4a1 SD. Here are some of the OpFor (Opposition Force) that will be encountered, equipped with a variety of weapons (Fn-Fal, M16 and RPG-7) The Mod itself is about to undergo extensive Beta testing by Giwex, amongst others. I estimate Operation: Dark Star will be released by the end of August (hopefully !) – please refer back to here for updates, further pics etc etc Edited January 3, 2005 by blakarion. Giampi
I you have seen the huge step ahead regarding quality between Operation Snake Strike and Operation After Shock you can imagine which level Op Dark Star will be.
Biro
Yes, this sounds good! Do you aim at singleplayer only or is the missions scripted in such a way that it works in coop aswell??
Giampi
Yes, this sounds good! Do you aim at singleplayer only or is the missions scripted in such a way that it works in coop aswell?? For sure it will be Co-op. But I do play on SP and I will beta-test only the SP so I can't promise that there will be no bugs on Co-op
blakarion.
Yes, this sounds good! Do you aim at singleplayer only or is the missions scripted in such a way that it works in coop aswell?? As Giwex said, he tests the SP side of the Campaign. As for MP, I have three fellow GR nuts who regularly LAN with me, at my house. So I can promise the MP side is/has been WELL tested ! The two main MP problems are usually Heli's and Hidden people. Heli - I have used Heli's in the mission, and unfortunatly these will proably let those missions down. They do look good in SP however - goto trade off somewhere Hidden People - Where ever possible I have scripted / placed Hidden OpFor so they are NOT a problem (I hope), and I havent had any major problems with them in MP LAN sessions. Here is a pic of Hakiro, a Japenese 'stealth opreative' with his high-tech MP7 SD PDW. He is another Hero, availiable during the Campaign
Stalker
looking good so far little suggestion: the jpg quality of the pics makes the weapons look bad... save them on quality level 10 and you'll get the best result with acceptable size
blakarion.
LOL - thanx m8, quality 10 it is then ! (Me new to posting pics )

blakarion.
Thanx for the support guys - don't worry this Mod IS going to be released and NOT fall by the wayside like so many other Mods ! In fact Ive completed it for Beta testing and it is now waiting to be uploaded for my Beta testers to pounce upon (and to tear apart ! ) Let me reassure all that allthough the Pics Im posting DO NOT really represent the quality of the work the Modellers have put into there weapons, vehicles etc. They are ALL excellent and look real good 'in the flesh' ! Here are a few more to wet the Community's appetite A TNI M113 APC Another three of the OpFor skins/actors This is Yuri, another Hero you can pic up in-game. He's using a AKMS-SD. Giampi
This to inform you that I've got the last version (almost definitive) of Op. Dark Star and the level is impressive. Of course I found some small bugs (my job is to find bugs) but be assured that this new campaign will be at the top of "must have" list. This time Blakarion surprised me at the huge level and I sicnerely hope you will agree with me. Stay tuned!
blakarion.
OK - latest info update: The Beta test is now with the Beta testers, and a flow of information regarding tweaks, slight changes (and downright bugs) has started to flow back which means the finished version should be flawless, and hopefully a enjoyable Mod for the Community to play. Due to me spending an all expenses paid 'holiday' in Hungary at the RAF's behest at the back end of this month, the release date looks like it will now be the start of September - sorry, hopefully the last slip. A few more pics : Basic A9 Rifleman, with M4a1 SD More OpFor, with a various 'captured' weapons from the TNI : SS1v1, SPR-1, FN-MAG
blakarion.
Right me and the Beta Testers have been buisy and overall OpDS is almost ready for release, only some minor tweaks left to do. However, I will be away until the end of the August, so it will not be released until at least the first week in September.
