So everything looks really awesome so far. I've only made it 10 mins in because Im needing to go soon, But one thing I noticed was the AI will ALWAYS switch to their secondary whenever they move. Even if we move a couple of steps. Is this intended?

This is because every scoped weapon is treated as a sniper rifle, right? This is like, the only thing I don't like from the mod.

Due to hard-coded restrictions, the game allows only a very limited amount of weapon class categories. Basically, the "Motion Type Index" is all there is to differentiate general weapon classes, and it offers just two options for scoped firearms, namely "Sniper Rifle" (Index No. 2) and "Bolt Action Rifle" (Index No. 3), and only a single option, namely "Rifle" (Index No. 1) for all other rifles. Each of these options comes with different pros and cons, as there's a multitude of properties tied to the index values, e.g. the scoped view of Heroes Unleashed is only possible for index types 2 and 3, all other weapon types have an unrestricted fullscreen zoom, which I'd consider an immersion breaker. Sadly, other features are hard-coded to be tied to the same index, e.g. reload sounds, certain character animations etc. Without access to the game's source code, this probably cannot be helped, for the time being.

PS: The forum still doesn't allow me to give out any more "likes" for today.

As we're currently talking about modern game download sizes elsewhere in the forums, just a quick survey how everyone's doing with the new GRHU download. Are the links working fine, download speed OK, any interrupted downloads or signs of file corruption, did unpacking work without a hitch etc.?

Can we get back to the "shooting you" part?

Because I'd seriously consider that, rather than developing two separate strains of this monster at the same time! :gun:

Just kidding of course, but seriously, I've thought about your suggestion (indeed you made it before), but I cannot bring myself to cut HU in half like that, plus it would probably come with a new set of problems to overcome. For the time being, I'd just like to get to the full 1.0 release in the not too distant future. Still plenty of stuff to do there.

Hello there!

First, congratulations Apex Mods for another great release! Heroes Unleashed is the best tactical experience I've ever had!

Now, I have some "clueless recruit" questions about the Mod's features, and I would love to have the community help here to understand better all of them.

Sorry in advance for both my bad english and my stupid questions.

1.  • Enhanced and extended Ghost Recon trilogy SP / MP CO-OP campaigns

There is a way to play Coop Campaign, or just set the Multiplayer Server to play maps in order, and set game type to Mission?

2.  • Loads of authentic weapons and equipment items (more than 400 total)

Almost had an orgasm here. Question is: is there a list? Just for taking a look at all the guns.

3.  • Revamped equipment kit selection menus (quick equipment browsing)

I played Multiplayer only so far. What's the change? I've seen the ususal kit selection menu, with right and left arrow to click, and you have to go trough all the list one by one to choose equipment.

4.  • Closer to real-world bullet penetration and wounding system

Is there Wall / Objects penetration? Or only Body / Armor?

5.  • Extra characters (more than 1,000 total) with many new attachments

Characters like Jack Stone and those guys? If yes, how to get access to all of those? And what are those attachments?

6.  • Supplementary military and civilian vehicles (more than 100 total)

Are those drivable?

7.  • Customizable to personal preference via 50+ included add-on mods

What sort of personal preferences can I have in-game?

8. What is the best Loadout option that I must choose when setting server's config if I want to play with all guns / kits?

Thanks in advance for your time / trouble =]

Wholly Crap This Is Epic! Just the size of the download: bigger then the game and its official expansions combined by three orders of magnitude! The commitment, labor of love, man hours spent building this without the 'official channel ' of recognition and that hundreds of hours people will spend playing this without million dollar ad campaigns to psych them up to make that effort it is testament to what's offered here. Needs a sexy ModDB page with well composed screen shots that conveys the long legs, reach, and atmosphere Ghost Recon still has.

Simply Amazing!

Hmm......weird change. Interesting that you changed "Heavy Armor" to represent NIJ Level IIIa Armor instead of Level IV. Also, I think Level I armor is not used nowadays. I am already using the Heavy Armor Addon because of that (So many addons)

Wait, so which add-on approximates Level III or IV armor? I'd rather not run around with some dinky IIIA soft armor.

It's actually a little more complicated than that, I think. Admittedly I don't recall the details now, because it's been a while since I looked into this subject, as the new ballistics system was one of the first things I implemented during Beta 9 development, but from what I recall, amor levels ended up as somewhat of a compromise to stretch them from basically nothing (no armor) to NIJ Level III (single-hit protection against 7.62mm FMJ), due to the game only allowing a maximum of 4 different levels of armor applicable to both player characters and NPC. In effect, the body armor system (as defined in cmbtmodl.xml) needs to address anything from an irregular running around in a t-shirt (level 0) to a support expert covered in plate carriers (level 3). An additional difficulty in getting this right lies with a randomization factor that's hard-coded into the game's bullet penetration system, meaning there's nearly always a (however tiny) chance of bullet penetration (or deflection for that matter), irrespective of armor levels.

Thanks a lot, LeBaron! To answer your questions...

1. Yes, that's exactly how you'd play the campaign in multiplayer co-op.

2. Yes there is, at least for the firearms. It's in the XTRAS folder under "HU Weapons Info".

3. Click and hold down the arrows to quick-browse the selection. Have a look here for an impression how it works.

4. This refers to terminal ballistics for human targets (e.g. with body armor). Sadly, the game allows only very limited object penetration.

5. There's over 1,000 game characters in total, most of which are of course NPC.

6. No. Ghost Recon does not allow vehicles that are drivable by the player.

7. Many, e.g. re-enabling BDU/DCU, Legacy reticles, yellow font, etc. Have a look in the "XTRAS" > "HU Add-On Mods" folder to get an idea.

8. "Joint Task Force (Co-Op/Solo)" gives access to all units and specialists and their individual arsenal (all have different weapons available.)

my favorite part so far of HU is the extra add on mods. Legacy is a dream come true. not that i have anything against the regular HU but Legacy is perfect for me as i tend to be a mod minimalist. well done!

Glad you like it. Sometimes when I'm in a specially nostalgic mood, I opt for the Legacy add-on myself.

Thanks for the encouraging words, 101459! Regrettably, I'm far from expert when it comes to effective PR, especially visual presentation, and I fear there's very little 'sexy' about my ModDB page, or any other official Heroes Unleashed representation for that matter. So I'd like to take your comment as an occasion to ask for help in this regard.

If there's anyone out there willing to assist in sprucing up the mod's presentation in any way, please(!) don't hesitate to contact me! Whether it's a new mod intro or gameplay video, screenshots, logo design... whatever you can come up with, I'm interested. :)
