  1. I just do not see how people can judge something that is not made yet. Yes, I liked Rainbow Six, yes, I liked Eagle Watch, yes, I liked Rogue Spear. Sure, after that, it went a bit downhill. Then Ghost Recon was released. Now, the only console system I have ever owned was an Atari 2600, so I never tried the console versions. I am not saying the next Ghost Recon game will be the best thing since sliced bread. I am not suggested people camp out the local computer stores or pre-order it right away. It is not even made yet. I know Serellan reads these forums. I have a great deal of respect for that person. He is one of us. He is a player who made it to the company who made the game he modded. There is a chance that he can steer the game into a way that the community would like it to go. What is the harm of just waiting and see how it turns out?
  2. I've been told it means "Come by here my Lord" but sung with an accent - likely a African-English pidgin or creole. Here's more info: http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a980911a.html With regards to GRIN, all I can say right now after playing BF2 by their Swedish countrymen at DICE, is that it's my favorite export out of that country since Ikea Seriously, I have faith in GRIN that they are working hard to make GR3 the best possible experience on the PC as they can. My main concern is if Ubi puts time constraints on them to release the PC version at the same time as the Xbox 360 version. ← I can't say anything about Ikea, but he is right on target with DICE. What DICE to Battlefield 42 was simply amazing. If GRIN can revolutionize GR the same way DICE did BF42, we will be in business.
  3. It would be best to wait and see the finished product before laying down judgement. I am sure there are many FPS games out there. Did GR have all the best of those elements? no. Yet, I find myself still drawn to it. -If they can keep it realistic, i.e., shot in leg, limp, shot in arm, aim is worse, body shot (depending on weapon and distance) dead or wounded, headshot dead. -Tactical mini-map with GRIDS!!!! -boot/ban from ingame -ban other than IP -easier way to find online games -update the graphics, yet still keep it 'gritty' If they can do these things, I will be a happy person. I am willing to give them a chance with it. The game has been out for how long? Will waiting another few more months really matter? If the game is trash, fine, it is trash. But we do not know what it is like yet because it has not been released yet.
  4. The is incredibly important. Think of how it would be if the game was called "Fuzzy bunnies and happy hampsters."
  5. Have to learn switching teammate fast, but I have only seen that problem when the AI teammates don't have line of sight over a hill/crest. The enemy AI does pretty much the same but we miss it because it's just an enemy shot... we notice it when it ###### us off. The best cure I have found is having the team lay prone seeing over the edge on recon, then pressing 8 for assault, since they dont get up on it. But it would be great to at least have no friendly fire... when you get hit launching a nade and shoot at your feet, the nade shouldnt explode either... and the problem with M136 hitting ground... and being ineffective passing a corner... plus grenade throwing which is like russian roulette, at least I myself not being hardcore online GR player, get those suicidal short throws, and can't really judge how far it will fly... little things could be better. I much prefer the AI following orders strictly and shoot a lot rather than having too many "bright ideas" ... used to think teammates are useless, then I had 3 guys shoot themselves trough 50 elite enemies with one loss... I just commanded them on tactical screen. On high skills they are truly good, and the better I get at the game the more I appreciate the fact that it's usually me who gets them killed switching between them and stuff. The best thing about AI is if you don't see them, the AI mostly will. Especially when line of sight is bad. ← oops, didnt mean to quote this. rats! oh, well, After going thru the solo missions a few times, I learned just to do the game with one person or two. The second one will usually cover my main's flank. With the OICW, most of the enemy can be taken out. The secondary man will usually be carrying the demo charges/anti-tank that I can switch to. I will then just leave the rest of the crew at the starting point.
  6. There is definitely a HUGE difference in AI. I have seen the Enemy AI lob nades like they were in the majors, just about bouncing them off of a tree to bounce off of another tree to land right in that perfect spot to kill two or three of my guys. When do my guys get the initiative to lob nades? not that I can recall. My most memorable moments are when I am actively laying down fire somewhere and my guys will walk right in that line of fire. That I just adore.
  7. Ok, guys, here it goes, we have two replays of 'questionable' people on our server. Any suggestions on what to look for? It has been a while since I have looked at a replay for 'questionable' acts. Names and Retlock are the cheats that I suspect they are using, or at least one of them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  8. I thought there was a Marine one that gave you a sorta crosshairs sight. Like most of the people here, DTD FROSTBITE
  9. Now, it has been awhile since I have seen any info on BF2. I think, for the most part, BF and GR fall into two seperate categories. Each one appeals to a seperate group. BF is for those that just want high kill numbers, and for lack of better word 'arcady' feel to it. Is there anything wrong with that? no, not really. If someone wants to spend 30-40 minutes doing that, fine, they are enjoying themselves. MOST GR games, have few to no respawns, and therefore, more of a 'tactical' game. I like the fact that when I play GR, I feel like i am accomplishing something. To me it is fun. Tried BF, and don't get into it. Don't like the fact that when shoot someone with a .50 cal, they need several shots before they drop, don't like the jumping but it does have some really nice features that GR/GR2 SHOULD have hot keys to say different things to your team, very handy the GRIDED!!!!!! overlay minimap yes, some of the vehicles are nice. I would like to see limited vehicle use ability to boot INGAME!!!!! ability to see alot of servers, not everyone has ASE But, yes, BF and GR appeal to different people for different reasons.
  10. I like respawns. I really do. Four respawns is a nice number. I have played in games with none, and played in games with more. I play to enjoy myself, not to get killed in the first minute and a half and sit there. That is NOT fun. Yup, here I am sitting here. I do not play 'competitively' no tag or anything else, I play for fun. I tried Battlefield 42, and that is NOT fun, that is the opposite of GR. Just because it is set on a few respawns does not mean people can just 'run and gun', go ahead, see how long you are going to last. Sure, you have a few respawns, but the effect will be the same as none if you just run out in the open like a rambo. If I get in a server that has none, fine. I can do that for a while, if I get in a server with infinite, then I leave.
  11. I think they wanted to get a larger audience base with GR2, that is why they changed the viewpoint. The one thing that keeps GR fresh to me is how open ended it is in SP, if i am bored, i can do a few firefight missions, or defend, or recon and have fun in normal game or with some mods running. Tried COD, was so disappointed by the linear nature of it. Yes, some of the firefights were intense, but the gameplay was just so linear, NO replay value at all. The MP experience was ok, my biggest beef with MP was that 90% of the games had infinite lives. BF42 SP, ewwww. I have not touched that in months, probably closer to a year or so. MP like it even less, with a bunch of mindless bots replaced with a bunch of mindless people. There are others, that fall in both of those categories. The thing that really stuck GR out was that it was not like the rest of the crowd. It borrowed elements from R6, the tactical part, and was challenging. I love the fact it is tactical, no idiots running around just gunning around. I like the fact that you can have good game types like siege with 4 lives and have fun, something some of the other games do not have. Maybe we are just in the minority.
  12. Well, sadly, I think cheating is very much alive in the lobby. Sometimes it can be very difficult to spot them. The most memorable time I remember is seeing a sniper on my team shoot close to fully auto on a map and get a kill with each shot. Now, granted, I dont use snipers much, but from what I remember, you have to wait for the cross-hairs to close, if not, then you shot might not hit. Not this guy, nope, he had the magic rifle. There are lots of cheats out there, RETLOCK, NAMES, and a plethera of others. My advice is, just to play. There is skill, and there is HACKED Skill. The cheaters and Teamkillers are one reason why alot of people who host games want some kind of anti-cheat method, as well as an ingame of booting people such things. Banning by something other than IP would be good as well.
  13. I actually found it is best to go in with only one or two men and a have sniper in another group or be the second man. That way, there is less chance of having your teammates drop like flies, because, well, there are not that many. I have seen my guys walk right in my line of fire AS I was firing, guys get killed, one after another by the same tango, groups get taken out by a nade, and so on. -Check the mini map often. Check it for positioning and if there are any tangos out there. -Use single shot, or 3 rnd burst. -Cover and Concealment! Always use those two. Go from bush to bush to rock to tree stump. -Crouch, and go prone when scanning. IF you want to run between cover, then stand, you can run faster when standing and zig-zag if possible. -Guns to use: OICW/SOCOM/SA80 -Permenant save at different spots, there are times when things just go bad... It is a good game. It might take a bit to get used to the harsh feel of it, but I think it is a very rewarding thing. I would also recommend getting FROSTBITE.
  14. Well, I must confess, I really dont dabble much in online games. Have tried a few, GR, COD, halo, BF42, and delta force. That is about it. I think there are two distinct camps out there, those that are into the 'tactical' shooters, ala GR, and the R6 series, and those that into the 'shoot, die, respwan, shoot, die, respawn' games like BF42. I think Soldnier had a lot going for it and was trying to be competititve with the rest of the 'second' camp out there. It fell short in many aspects, however. It is a shame. I know I would LOVE to have destroyable terrain. That would open up so many different options in gameplay. Vehicles can be a nice addition as well. The thing that I do not like about some of the games, BF42, is that the vehicles, when destroyed just respawn over and over and over again. By respawning, it takes the thrill out of having them there. So, it looks like just shoddy design killed it. I would rather play a tactical game where what I do makes a difference like in GR. In the large 'battlefield' games, I just feel a face in the crowd. But, this is just me.
  15. LOL, banning south america, it is sad when it has to happen....
