I'm playing THAT bloody game again! GR Returns!

Recommended Posts

Many, many moons ago I left this forum in something of a hissy fit (...The usual stuff - "Ubisoft won't give us 'our' Ghost Recon back" yadda, yadda, yadda...)! And I vowed that was it with me and the Ghost Recon franchise...

Er, well, I'm back!

It was purely unintentional - I was testing out STEAM's 'In-Home Streaming' system and was wanting a range of games - old and new - to try it out for a review and Ghost Recon Classic seemed to be a good candidate.

I merely intended installing it, testing it and uninstalling it again........THAT WAS TWO WEEKS AGO!

Goddamit! I'm playing that bloody game again. :wall:

"I'll just record a couple of attempts to do the old 'Castle Slalom' [a lone circuit around the Castle map in the fastest time with the least shots fired]" I said... Oh how naive!

....SO. Hello again chaps! Here I am again. Is there no sort of addiction support for GR? No helpline or buddy system? :shhhh:

Welcome back!

What is in home streaming and how does it tie in with GR?

Hi Rocky...

This is mainly a MAC issue - BUT say you want to do a bit of casual gaming on you laptop in front of the TV (you can't be bothered to sit down in front of you gaming rig). Well STEAM's 'In-Home Streaming System' allows you to stream your games from you main PC (host) to your laptop (client). It's quite cool as it means you can run (remotely) certain games on less powerful machines, and even on different platforms (like Mac and Linux).

This was the issue for me. I am a MAC user and I have had all sorts of problems getting Ghost Recon Classic to run on my Intel based OS X machine - so I was trying to stream it from my PC instead! :)

Welcome back. I too am an old GR fan that has recently reinstalled the game and began playing again. I play in a couple dedicated servers about 5-6 hours a week... granted, that's nowhere near the 20+ hours I used to put in back when I was in high school... but considering I have a $3000 machine with BF4 and I'm playing a game released in 2001... I think it's a crap ton.

Love the game. Hope to see you in one of the servers.

Thank you Delink. My experience is similar - my gaming rig is built specifically with BF4 in mind and yet I've now missed several nights playing BF4 with my mates because I've been playing GR instead!

I'm starting to look at what servers are available for online play and downloaded Game Ranger (another blast from the past) yesterday as I am told there is some play to be had there. So i will be on the servers soon!

.......After I get some practise in. ;)

There's 2 dedicated servers up all the time. =AOG= and CHI clan servers. I play in there regularly starting around 9pm EST and some nights there are up to 20 players in there.

I also browse gameranger for the random pickup game once in a while... The 2 dedi's have mods on them but they're fairly easy to find and install once you see what they are.

I haven't played BF4 in quite some time. It's plenty fun but after a while I really get the itch for a much more realistic, tactical shooter.
