Enhance your copy of Crysis 2 with the DirectX 11 Ultra Upgrade.

A three-part release, the Ultra Upgrade introduces tessellation to Crytek’s first-person shooter and upgrades a whole host of graphical effect

The DX11 Ultra Upgrade is a free visual improvement add-on introducing DirectX 11 support as well as a wealth of graphical improvements and performance optimization for both DX11 and DX9 API's.

When using the new “Ultra” spec, DX9 platforms will benefit from real-time local reflections and contact shadows.

The owners of DX11 platforms, in addition, will be able to enjoy hardware tessellation (requires the installation of the “DX11 Ultra Upgrade”), parallax occlusion mapping and several improvements for shadows, water, particles, depth of field and motion blur.

DX11 Ultra Upgrade (optional)

This free package enables the full DX11 feature set for Crysis 2 such as Tessellation and Displacement Mapping, Realistic Shadows with Variable Penumbra and much more for an outstanding visual experience. A DirectX 11 capable system is required.

High Res Textures (optional)

This package provides higher texture resolution for a wide variety of assets. It supports both the DirectX 11 and DirectX 9 versions of Crysis 2.

A 64-bit operating system and a graphics card with at least 768 MB of memory are required.

Just played this last night with all settings on Ultra. Running at 1400x900 and it is smooth and looks jaw dropping. My PC is windows 7, has 4GB RAM and a DX11 capable HD 5770 card. Will try it with the High Resolution texture pack tonight.

As far the new Cryengine 3. It's even better now. Easy to work with ( probably impossible to master ). Still don't know why the people on here haven't tried to make a tactical mod on it. Even a simple one.

You need the 1.9 update, the mod SDK and the high res texture pack. So 3 files in all.

Tinker you really should assembly a team and try something with it. When the full SDk is released there is no limit to what can be done with. For me it is much easier than UDK and the games look better.

All installed, started a new campaign and played for 15 minutes. Seems to be slightly stuttering now, ran smooth as anything previous. Whenever I look around it goes blury, slightly stutters, takes a moment to settle. tried decresing the mouse sensitivity but no change at all. Made it difficult to quick aim and move, even gave a sense of motion sickness.

<_<

Recommended:

64-bit Operating System

Fast HDD or even SSD

Quad Core CPU

8GB of RAM

DX11 compatible graphic card with 1.5GB Video Memory

My rig:

W7 64-bit

i7 quad core

8GB RAM

GTX460 GS - 2GB RAM

Western Digital 500GB HD

May be the hard drive. Only 90GB left of 465. Been a while since I defragged. In the process of transfering 260GB of Steam files to my external hard drive, then I can wipe all the ones I do not use and do a defrag. See how that goes.

Also thinking of a 120GB SSD and running a second drive.

That just sounds like intentionally added post processing effects (Arma 2 has similar thing's)

but you should normally be able to adjust the Motion Blur Etc in the options...

ah yes, in the "Advanced Graphic Options", just turn "Motion Blur Options" to "Disabled" or Medium/Low

Also thinking of a 120GB SSD and running a second drive.

well that's really moving onto a whole other separate subject (that would probably be better covered in depth in computer discussions)

but unless you want to give up a PCI-Express slot, you might want to look at the more traditional SATA based SSD's instead, such as OCZ Vertex 3 Series or can pick up a good last years cutting edge OCZ Vertex 2 series very cheaply nowadays

either way, always plan to put the O/S and a handful of key games on the SSD for best performance

Ah many thnx, much better.

Removed a load of steam games and defragged, still has a little stutter.

Cheers for the links also.

NP :)

I'm not a big fan of the overdone Motion Blur and head bobbing motion in some games either :x:lol:

Yeah a defrag every now and then can do wonders for performance (Except on an SSD) Also doing a Contig too (for a GUI version see Power Defragmenter).

as to the stutter it could be because it's trying to display stuff faster than the HDD can load it - if so, an SSD will definitely help you there.

or you may have to try dialling down a couple of graphics setting a notch just to keep it smooth

[O/T]

You may be aware, but you can move "less played" Steam games to a separate drive (works best with those under "\steamapps\common") and Steam will still think it's installed together

So can have Steam and main games on the fastest drive and most other steam games on a different physical drive, particularly those that don't need a fast drive.

what you do is use MKLINK command to create (Hard Link) symbolic junction links to other locations and Steam will still think they are all located under it's install.

Warcloud what are your system specs.

Windows 7 x64 Home Premium edition ( sp1 + all important and recommended updates)

Intel i7-860 2.8GHz but SpeedStep is enabled plus Turbo boost and hyper thread technology is enabled (i just let the motherboard bios do its thing)

GeForce GTX 580 + 275.50 beta drivers

8GB 1600MHz RAM 9.9.9.24.2T (4x 2GB modules) dual channel

500GB Sata 3GB/s hard drive.

Don't you think Dx9 looks just as good a dx11 though?, i do. The Dx9 screenshots i posted earlier have the high res textures disabled, everything was on the lowest settings for dx9. Some of the tessellation looks a tad weird imho.

GeForce GTX 580 review

Ok, I can see your advantage now.

I am going to try adding a second 460 for now, probably still not match your frames, but should remove any stutterings and help in general.

Not really seeing much difference here either between the 2, but I am not really 1 for looking at fine details like that. <_<

Running this from an SSD drive now. Went to the same spots, overall average, now have this:

DX9-High average 74 FPS

DX11-Ultra average 27 FPS

Still having a tiny stutter per second when running the DX11 settings.

Still to test the SLI solution which will be soon.

Going to try changing from duel channel memory (2x4GB) to triple (3x4GB) Have to check out a bios update for asus first, for compatibility for memory, if no fun will grab some g-skill.

Now running an SLI solution at last, ran the same tests as before. Only a tiny increase in FPS, but the stuttering is gone completely. Even with Ultra settings applied, the game runs perfectly nice. :)

DX9-High average 79 FPS

DX11-Ultra average 29 FPS

Only had the new PC running Saturday, the results (DX11-Ultra: average 40 FPS) where before all was updated. W7 updates, latest drivers all round. Not sure what did it, but the FPS has gone up by 20. :o Used the same spot for every test in the past. If I look around fast it drops down to around 50.

Other wise it tends to sit at 60 with no issues. :D

DX11-Ultra: average 60 FPS
