Introduction

co2.jpg

Hailed as one of the most anticipated mods, and after a yearlong and agonizing wait, BajaBravo?s Canadian Operatives 2 (CO2) struck the community with the force of a tornado in a trailer park. As the name suggests, the player find themselves immersed in a uniquely Canadian version of the classic GR, with all the bells and whistles.

The first of which is the a new launcher, that allows a player to configure; SP play/MP play including uniform/weapon choices, mod activations, unlocking quick mission specialists and the handy manual. Once your choices are made the player is launched into the game to experience the following:

Characters/Textures

BajaBravo has been called a master in the art of skinning characters for this game ? In CO2 he outdoes all of his previous work. Most simply put, they are spectacular. Naturally, the standard soldiers are now Canadians, however as opposed to having all the riflemen look like one another, (as well as the support, snipers and demolitions troops) he has managed to present them as individuals. He has done this by having male and female soldiers, troops with frag vests and webbing, troops with LBV?s, various small changes in the headdress (including my favourite - the scrimmed helmet). The overall effect is one of being surrounded by real soldiers (with their own personal kit variations). This only a small part of the overall beauty of the ?regular? soldier skins as he has crafted equally detailed desert skins, classic Canadian uniforms (including the Airborne and SSF) and RCMP uniforms in both their tactical uniforms and their famous ?Mounty? Scarlets.

As for specialists BajaBravo, does not leave us wanting. He has improved upon his JTF2 skin and presented a number of others to include highlights such as a CSIS Field Agent, a Naval Boarding Party Member, an Airforce Ground Crewman and an RCMP sniper. All of these characters are beautifully done, a few come with the three alternate terrain skins (did I say three? more on that later?) and each come with their own unique weapons packages.

A few new enemy skins have been included, including some very well done Desert Tango?s. For those of us in the mood for a Post-911 Tango hunt ? these are a great looking foe.

His attention to detail throughout the design of the skins is second to none, evidenced by dirty combats (on the knees and elbows) as well as the precision in which the badges for the uniforms were designed. This detail is also evidenced with the inclusion of Canadian Medals, as well as all of the background art, interfaces right down to the mouse pointer!

Weapons

The lead weapons modeller was Earl and as such there is almost no need to write more, they are simply superb. Other weapon modders include the fantastic work of (in alphabetical order) BajaBravo, Earl, Piccolo, SkyJockey (aka Hotpants) and Wolfsong.

Weapon ballistics were handled by Para and BajaBravo and the 5.56mm lack of penetration power that raised a few eyebrows in the community captured the real-life problems of shooting an opponent with body armour.

The only thing that could have added to the experience regarding weapons would have been the inclusion of new reticules. That said, this is a small thing given the otherwise magnificence of this mod.

Vehicles

There are also two new vehicles included in CO2, the Coyote Recce LAV and the Iltis Light Utility Vehicle, which are fantastic in game ? especially the Coyote. The addition of these vehicles improves the overall Canadian ?feel? to the mod.

The only thing that could have improved the mod from a vehicle perspective would have been the inclusion of the CH 146 Griffon tactical helicopter. Again, this too is a small thing.

Maps

Two custom maps created by other members of the community were included and adapted to CO 2:

A ? The Chalet by GR Squad: iso6, Ken 'the Judge', Nami ? included in the campaign; and

B ? The Dam by Neutron ? included as a quick mission.

Both are outstanding Maps and very well chosen to compliment the Mod.

Campaign

All of the missions in the campaign were scripted and authored by Adhoc. Quite frankly this campaign has some of the most brutal and difficult missions ? ever. With the few exceptions corrected by the patch these missions were brilliantly scripted and in virtually every case offered a challenge to the player. The missions were not verbose (unlike this review) and militarily correct. Another great aspect of the Mod and this campaign is that as the environments change so too do the skins? the standard CADPAT (TR) and CADPAT (AR) are shown for temperate and desert terrain, but the third Urban uniforms were a great addition (told you I?d come back to it) and really add to the overall experience.

Finally, he included some missions played in Sabre Teams (like that Damned Bridge) as well as, Neutron?s Undercut and Echo Foxtrot all have been adapted to CO2.

Conclusion

Canadian Operatives 2 is one of the finest total conversion mods available. It?s uniquely Canadian content, rather than appealing only to Canucks has drawn Ghost Recon fans from all over the globe to DL, play and relish this mod. BajaBravo has set out to make this mod as technically perfect as he can and in my opinion this total conversion mod simply Outstanding.

Fan Comments

?I thought all the missions were outstanding (some of the best ever) right up until the one on RS Chalet (THE best ever and makes Mission 2 seem like a cakewalk!).? ? Meprolite

?Simply Smokin' Mod and I haven't really even gotten that far into It but I love what you did with the CAR...? ? SOTOMac

?I'm as pleased with this mod as I have ever been by any GR mod. You are a true master in this community Mr. Bravo.? ? Suicide Commando

?Baja, I salute you. I am truly impressed by the time you've put into this mod, and your dedication to release such a great (and time consuming) work even though you're not getting anything in return except a pat on that back.? ? Peanut Budder

10/10 Top Mod!

I fully agree. Canadian Operatives 2 is one of the best I've played. Among the others I would add also Operation Stabilise and Swedish forces.

Quite frankly this campaign has some of the most brutal and difficult missions – ever

You used the right words, saying hard was not enough :P

Yeh, I like it ALOT...But anytime I try and de-activate the CO2 mod in GR after I activate it, the whole game crashes and I have to re-install GR 4 or 5 times before it works again. Any comment from the Co2 team or anybody else on how to fix this? I really love the mod, but just cant use it and be able to de-activate it so I can use any other mods. <_<

I dunno if this will help - I had a similar problem once, however I found that it was due to having too many mods activated with CO2. (I wanted to play Cdn troopers in different mods - like say WWIII :shifty: ). Anyhow, I found that if I tried to activate/deactivate too many mods at once, or even just certain ones, it would crash. I think this is due to the fact that some mods simply don't work well together. Of course this assumes you have more than one mod activated with CO2. ;)

I have successfully used this mod in conjuction with others, Like the Enemy Realism Mod, and a few other mission only/campaign only mods. Again, when I activate them, I do it one at time (pressing <Accept>), and I ensure that CO2 is in the highest priority.

My next guess would be that you are not using the provided installer, or not using it properly. For example, once you have made your selections, even though the next time you go to play it they aren't greyed out doesn't mean you have to re-select... I simply press <OK> and the game launches. If you do choose to set new options, the default will remove other mods.

Anyhow, I hope this helps and if not, drop BjB a line.

Respectfully,

Mike

To fix this problem, with the mod activated, finish or delete any campaigns that you started with the mod activated. Once the campaigns are finished, you should be able to safely deactivate the mod. This problem can occur in any mod that has more or differently named ATR files, as CO2 and SabreTeams do. Sorry for the grief.

@MarauderMike and everyone else with the kind words: Thanks for the generous support! GR has the best gaming community, bar none. It's a pleasure making mods for you guys. :D

Excellent on all accounts, just 2 points, you didnt give it a 10/10 (<<dont bother yourself with righting out the score again, just copy and paste I dont think we will argue ;)) score, and also Skyjokey could have done with an aka as Hotpants as we know him here. Just say the words and I will edit it in for you if you want.

Top dog=bjb!

And as for the lack of heli, that was my fault, I was working on the labradour (sp) heli kinda looks like a seaknight. But I never finished it. :( I thought CO2 was no longer been worked on and then it came out quickly. If you ever do a patch mutter the words and it shall be textured.

WRT the score, roger that, I believe it is a 10/10, but one man's 10/10 is another's 8.32. ;) This mod rocks however an individual scores it.

As for adjusting Skyjockey's name to Hotpants- please do.

And as for the lack of heli, that was my fault

It's nobody's fault Mate. Just something that could have been improved. The Labrador is a SAR helicopter in Canada, so the Griffon would be best. That said, anything done by you Chems, is always outstanding.

Hi folks, this MOD does sound damn good, but I cant seem to d/l it at the mo from the links provided above - is there another link somewhere?

I have removed the mirror link from abve and replaced it with a working mirror. The Fileplanet link is probably stillworking it's just that FP can be buggy occasionally.

If it is still not working try here.

I'll have to agree. Unfortunately, my experience with CO2 only extends to Mission 2, Elysian Fields. I can't survive it. :wall: It's sort of like shooting fish in a barrel except you are the fish. I could use some hints.

yes, that may be the case.

been a while since i played that mod.

are you looking for a mod that has all the players wearing the JTF camo?

if so, you can easily edit the resp. actor files for the Rifle, Heavy, Demo and Sniper classes.

Important!

this may be done for strictly personal use. and not for public without permission from

the modder.
