wombat50
What's for breakfast in the chow hall? Do you still have morning, evening formation and taps? Do Marines really refer to the orderly room as "The Bridge"? When was the last time you had parade formation, KP, police call or went on alert in the motor pool? Stateside, is it necessary to hoard toilet paper? Have you ever wandered outside in only a towel and flip flops and asked, "Where are the showers?" Have you ever felt faint while standing in parade formation and been ordered not to pass out? What's your MOS? ...just askin' Edited July 23, 2014 by wombat50
shakealeg1212
1) eggs, processed eggs that don,t come from chickens 2) yes morning and evening formations. taps plays every night 3) never heard it called that. maybe they do on ship 4) lol parade formations happen once every couple months,kp is only when we arent in garrison, police call everyday even on weekends, and never been alert in the motor pool 5)usually, though we prefer baby wipes, first come first serve at the px 6) in the field, yes everyone will at least once lol 7) infantry, mortars
wombat50
Wow, somethings change but somethings remain the the same. I was stationed at Ft. Meade for awhile and the guys at the Marine Barracks called the orderly room the bridge. Guess it was a one off deal. Their job was to guard the NSA. I don't know how they managed it but sometimes the powered eggs would have green streaks running through them. We had an unheated latrine(Quonset hut) in South Korea. Thankfully we had hot water. If it was cold enough when stepping out of the shower my flip flops would freeze to the floor. Edited July 23, 2014 by wombat50
Zeealex
assuming you have one, what's your MCMAP belt?
shakealeg1212
Wombat, yeah I knew some guys that went to South Korea , not the warmest place I hear! Ive been to more hot places than cold, so I'll take hot any day. Zee, I'm a tan belt. In my experience belts really depend on your command ,there wasn't a lot of pressure for us to move up in belts but other units almost everyone is a black belt lol. wombat50
North Korea up in the mountains is where it really gets cold. Almost arctic conditions in winter. Not to say South Korea doesn't get damn cold.

wombat50
I was a 31M40(Radio Relay and Carrier attendant) an US Army MOS that no longer exists. I was in a Signal Battalion in South Korea and a Signal Company at Ft. Meade, MD. Overseas duty was by far the best. Worked as the battalion draftsmen and other duties in the S3 section. Ran the mimeograph at battalion HQ. When we went to the field I was on the night shift in the SYSCON(System Control) van(Deuce and a half with a radio van in the bed). I was a driver so I drove either the SYSCON van or a M151A1 jeep. I would be the driver when the S3 officer wanted to recon for radio sites which was nice getting out of Camp Casey and getting to see some countryside. Ft Meade. Spent fifteen months there and went to the field twice. Waxed floors and messed around maintaining our equipment in the motor pool most of the time. Several times we were tasked being pallbearers or firing 21 gun salutes for ex-servicemens funerals. Our company and others from Ft Meade were riot troops at the 1973 inauguration in Washington. There was probably 2,000 of us and we convoyed in 2 1/2s to the Old Soldiers Home in DC in the middle of the night. They didn't have any riots so we were only on standby. I was charged with taking 3 trucks to meet a Russian transport plane carrying some technicians at Andrews AFB and take their luggage to several hotels in DC. Nixon was going to have a summit with Brezhnev so the Russian tech guys were an advance party. I was loading some of the luggage when a guy in a group of Russians wanted to hand carry his luggage. I don't speak Russian and he didn't speak English. He got his bag using sign language. Lol. The only time I was toe to toe with the Rooskies. The Russians and our three trucks made up the motorcade headed for the hotels with a motorcycle escort. One of my buddys driving one of our trucks backed into and knocked over one of the parked motorcycles not at one but two hotels. The policeman was ######. Boiled down to being a flunky but I was a reliable flunky. Every now and again I'll have this nightmare that I have re-upped for six more years. Blame
Hahahaha I sometimes have nightmares I'm at Parris island again ! We all have terrible nightmares, I'd say the #1 nightmare is dreaming about you having to wake up and go to school, then you wake up and realize, you actually have to go to school. wombat50
Blame, my brother has a similar nightmare. In his dream he shows up for school and they are having a test he knows nothing about. He says he doesn't have it as often anymore since its almost 50 years since he graduated from high school. Shakealeg where are you stationed? Edit: What's the most tedious thing you have done while a Marine? What is the most extraordinary thing you have done as a Marine? shakealeg1212
im stationed in hawaii!! the most tedious hmm, id have to say 24 hour duty, a very boring non sleeping post. the most extraordinary would have to be the times we helped those with less than us without anything in return.

Cpl Ledanek
Son, I'm disappointed you typed Marine in lower case. I miss the Blue School bus off Waikiki that serves the giant prawns over garlic sauce....it used to be along Kalakaua Blvd/ I just got hungry thinking about it.
