  1. I'm not a coder hence my knowledge in computer science is quite narrow. what I do know is that the dynamic properties of ingame weapons are usually defined by a numerical variable, at the most basic level at least. I used to modify the weapon codes for Joint Ops when I was into that game and I made myself a 4x ACOG for the M4 and changed up a bunch of other values as well. (recoil deviation, velocity, projectile weight, kinetic energy, tracer ratio, etc.) the code you're looking for probably has a keyword such as <Penetration762> Value = 3.434335345 or some crap like that, all you have to do is change the numeral to something a lot higher and it'll probably behave like a .50BMG one thing to remember is that changing one variable can affect a lot of other stuff that you didnt intend to change. learn how to crawl before you can walk, what I'm trying to say with that is start out making only one change (back up your file before that in case it goes bad because debugging is a serious hassle) once you become more confident and learn the dynamics of the game code you can start taking bigger leaps everything that happens in game is defined in the code by mathematic formulas, if you're good with algebra and calculus you can probably pick up the logic of programming languages pretty quick (I realized coding wasn't my cup of tea when I took into to Visual Basic in high school) GRAW uses XML right? my best advice is to simply open up an XML file and read through it looking for interesting variables to change and then seeing how they affect gameplay. also, i'd recommend using actual coding tools over things such as notepad because reading through that stuff can be very confusing and frustrating and color coded variables make your life a lot easier.
  2. hah yeah, owning a class 3 without going through all the federal red tape and taxes, now THAT'S FREEDOM... sucks about the wartime economy though, I read on gunsnet that a lot of the surplus munition manufactured at Tula is being bought up by the gov and shipped overseas to train the Iraqi Defense Force poor sods such as myself get to buy what ever is left, when I bought my SKS on the weekend after I turned 18, Wolf 7.62x39 HP and FMJ retailed for $.10/pop, now its $.20+/pop for the same crap... that was two years ago, I dont even want to mention gas prices but you can always go to wally world and pay $20 + Tax for 40 rounds of domestic Winchester & Remington 7.62x39. only good thing about those is that you can reload them and they seem better suited for hunting. I might have to try that next time deer season comes around because one of my buddies owns a bit of woodland that has a nice deer population and I don't think anyone will call the game warden if I'm blasting deer on private property with a semi-auto with the owners permisson hahah
  3. It would make no sense for the Mexicans rebels to use AKs, AKs are for terrorists, comunist countries, and former soviet republics. The political influence of the US over the mexican government would never allow the mexicans to buy AKs. And besides, it makes sense for the mexicans to use G36s, since Spain uses them and it's quite common for Spanish Language countries to buy military hardware from Spain. It's just lack of creativity to pit the US' soldiers against the old generic terrorist/comunist guerrila armed with AKs, it's time to evolve, as Grin did. No one ever thought the Ghost's next assignment would be on Mexico. I dunno about that mate, There are some real "Cadillac" Kalashnikov rifles out there that put the old rusty stamped steel and laminated stock to shame and saying only terrorists use AKs is like saying only Gangstas use Glocks check out these pictures (courtesy of ultimak.com (ULTIMATE AK ACCESSORIES lol) uh oh... I Think the retail value of that aimpoint exceeds the production cost of the rifle even with a military discount hehe this one is a Russian made VEPR (Civillian export AK) build on a stamped RPK receiver which are on par with the milled type but without the cost of machining. they come in different calibers that are more domestic friendly compared to the Russian surplus stuff (surplus 5.45 & 7.62x39 are rare and expensive now a days) so the lineup includes chambering for .308 and .223 (the one below is .308/7.62NATO) and here comes the real shocker lol (Taken in Iraq/Afghanistan and sent to ultimak for good publicity)
  4. the thing that really irks me and has been irking me for the last few years now is how slow the entire concept of "digital distribution" has been catching on, ###### people when you buy a game at full retail price you're basically spending $45 to cover the production and shipping charges of the publisher giving you the convenience (inconvenience IMHO) of owning a physical copy of the software you licensed (if they cut out the middle man games probably wouldn't cost more than $5-10) we live in a digital world and having a "physical" handicap is a throwback into the dark ages if you ask me. Valve has done a really nice thing with steam, despite what people say its pioneering technology that is still in its infant stage (nothing "new" works perfect the first time around) as for copy protection, its a joke, the only people it hurts are "n00b pirates" and legitimate consumers Moderator edit: Although the subject of this thread is "[Thing that should not be spoken of here IAW Forum Rule 3.7]?" it is against the rules of this site to discuss cracked executables, for liability reasons. Please do not mention 3rd party tools meant to get around copy protection, and 'scene' groups who do so. buying a game now a days is like buying a box of ######ty chocolate, you never know what you get and you can't always go by what other people say, if it works for them there is no chance of it working for you because everyone has a different setup. retailers wont accept return of opened software because the mutual assumption is you copied the game and now want your money back you pinko son of a ######... Edited: See above. if its worth buying then buy a cd-key, that way everyone can be happy. (my apologies in advance if I violated any "piracy discussions" rules. I'm merely attempting to keep an open mind)
  5. the thing about porting models from different games is they tend to suck ass... xbox 360 isn't a PC, you couldn't read the serial number on your model on a ######ty TV and not everyone has a high-definition plasma screen. The best user made models I have seen in any game were the ones brought about by the counter-strike/CS Source community, these people spend months modeling a weapon to extreme detail and then passing it on to the next guy who skins it or animates it because there are no "jack of all trades" when it comes to producing uber quality. from what I know about the XM/M28 OICW (published information) is that the 25mm has some nifty little features such as an electronic trajectory calculator, the ability to set a fuse time for the projectile as well as impact detonation and air bursting. I can see how Thermal vision and rounds that punch through everything can seriously deteriorate multiplayer balance because its not fun to not have anywhere to hide. it would work well for cooperative gaming though. also, Thermobaric warheads plz )
  6. I second the TacLight Idea, the NVGs are just plain irritating when you're trying to look inside a dark room while standing in the sunshine a nice 200+ Lumen light with a mouse bound on/off switch would rock! those super bright lights also act as a momentary stun for anyone who gets lit up with them, its like a directional mini flashbang, you see a big blue blob for at least 30 seconds after you shine it in someone's face, lol I do it all the time to my doper friends with my 80 lumen light . there are so many bells and whistle gadget gizmos you can stick on a picany rail, its ridiculous. an ACOG mod is still on top of my list though, I hate not being able to efficiently shoot through the viewports of .50 cal gunners, point of aim doesn't always seem to be point of impact I liked what the 6.8 SPC mod was trying to do with being able to put that 20x sniper scope on all the Assault Rifles, only bad thing is the extreme tunnel vision from the insane magnification, you could shoot beads of sweat of someone's forehead with that piece. and of course the co-op crashes
  7. "Silencer" is a bit of an oxymoron, no such thing as a silent gun that cycles... All suppressors really do is dampen the muzzle blast of your weapon enough so you don't blow out your ear drums when shooting indoors. (Ever set of a firecracker inside your room?) If you are attempting to "Silence" your weapon you have to either get something that reduces the muzzle velocity of your projectile into the sub sonic category or simply use sub sonic loads because even if you can dampen the muzzle blast you still have a super sonic projectile that gives off a sonic boom. I'm sure some of you have had military jets fly over your neighborhood that broke the sound barrier and almost knocked the porcelain off the shelf. that's why in most places military aircraft are barred from going super sonic over populated areas due to SEVERE noise pollution. another problem with sub sonic projectiles is that sub sonic means more airtime for the bullet and more air time means a greater chance of the environment jacking your trajectory, not to mention reduced stopping power and penetration. P.S. never knew there was a company named surefire making suppressors, I'm only familiar with their line of tactical flashlights (which kick ass)
