Technical and Gameplay Issues.

RESOLVED

1. I can't get HIGH setting for Textures

Only graphics cards with 512Mb of memory will have the HIGH option enabled. You can however force the high settings by using the xml settings shown here, however it may reduce your games performance.

2. It says CO-OP for LAN - can't I play online?

Yes you can, read the tips here.

3. Game crashes to desktop prior to vendor splash screens.

Installing the latest sound drivers for your soundcard can resolve this issue.

4. Mouse smoothing effect

5. Poor performance, low FPS and choppy play

The "smooth mouse" like issue appears if your framerate is too low.

6. Poor Performance, choppy play, low FPS

a) Update your drivers (graphics and sound). Nvidia owners try the 83.40 beta drivers.

b) Try updating the AGEIA drivers (even though you do not have an AGEIA card installed). If you still have the little AGEIA icon in you lower right taskbar, double click on it and choose the tab "HELP" press check for update and it will take you to a page showing latest AGEIA drivers v2.4.2. Download and install them. (Tip from Dawn).

7. I have no mouse when I alt tab to desktop

Either leave an app running in the background or once at the desktop ctrl-alt-del to recover the mouse cursor.

8. No sound from your own gun.

If you hear all sounds in the game, but not the sound of your own gun, it's probably because the audio output of your sound card doesn't match what you have connected to it. E.g. you may have the output set to 5.1 but you only have two speakers or a pair of headphones connected, meaning that your sound card sends audio signals intended for speakers that are not there.

In other words: Make sure the output of your sound card is set to whatever speaker setup you have connected to your computer. This is a hardware setup and it is done "outside" the game. Thanks to GRIN Desmond!

9. InstallShield Error 6001

This is due to InstallShield not being able to replace an older copy of Installshield with the files provided in the GRAW Setup.

The workaround for this is to delete the problem folder these files are in and allow the GRAW installer to replace the necessary files.

Delete the folder "0701" in the following directory

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Installshield\Professional\Runtime\

10. Crash in application version: grpcrc1.02 Failed setting up render device

Your graphics card may not meet minimum requirements. Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter requires a DirectX 9-compliant video card with 128MB RAM capable of Shader 2.0 (SM 2.0).

NVIDIA 6 and 7 series

ATI Radeon 9600-9800 series and X series

11. Laggy Keyboard Response - Sticky Keys

Well many have run into the laggy keyboard issue, and so far it's been discovered that the some people's game starts in high priority which sucks up all the processing power so that it takes a while even to process the keystrokes. So you can either hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete to the Task Manager and manually change the priority to normal, which fixes it; or you can put command lines in the shortcut to make it start at normal such as the stuff here:

C:WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "GRAW" /NORMAL "C:\Program Files\UBIsoft\Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter\GRAW.exe"

Or: Here is a method that works without fiddling with that cmd.exe line:

1. Go to the Ghost Recon folder

2. Create a .txt file.

3. Open the .txt file with the notepad

4. Add the line "start /normal graw.exe" to the text file and save it (without the quotes).

5. Rename the .txt file to "start.bat" or give it another name that you like, as long as you keep the .bat suffix.

6. Point the shortcut to the .bat file and start the game that way.

Many people have used either of these methods and got it to work. I used both of these methods and the graw.exe does in fact start at normal. But as soon as it starts verifying the DVD(in my case), the priority is moved back up to high. So for me, I have to wait a few seconds into the dvd check before I change the priority level.

Special thanks to Ghost9 for this answer!

11. Clicking JOIN in multiplayer does nothing.

This can happen due to ZoneAlarm firewall. Open ZA and in the Firewall section, change the Internet Zone Security to Medium for the duration of your game.

UNRESOLVED

1. Game crashes to desktop before menu but after vendor splash screens.

2. Cannot get Anti Alias enabled. Latest Nvidia drivers, FSAA set via Nvidia panel, no AA displaying in game. Only affecting some users. See this quote here from Nvidia.

3. Cannot aim low when prone. Invisible floor prevents weapon from aiming below eye level. Also, when crouching not able to aim straight up, you have to stand up to aim up to shoot the enemies on the buildings if your right below them.

4. When the team leader dies in a COOP game, the whole mission ends.

5. Motion sickness from the FOV being < 90

6. AGEIA tool installed by default, is this required for non AGEIA Hardware PC's?

7. Mousewheel issues.

8. After reloading, there is a 2 seconds delay before you can run.

Manual Uninstall

Question

The installation crashed part way through and windows now thinks the game is installed. How can i remove the game from the system and do a fresh install.

Answer

Open My Computer then open the Local Disk (C:)

Open the program files folder.

Click on the tools menu then choose folder options

Click on the view tab and tick the box labelled "show hidden files and folders". Press OK

Open the installshield installation information folder

Search for a folder named {EFC97089-04D6-42CE-A707-A343B4A7D2CD}

Right click on the folder and choose rename. Press the End key on the keyboard and type the word OLD. Press the enter key

Reinstall the game using the original install disk.

This will replace and overwrite any missing components that were preventing the game from being uninstalled normally

Video Freeze:

For those who are experiencing this problem...a partial blue sky horizon with a black foreground screen lockup while still hearing audio and being able to access gameplay controls

For geforce users, download...

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/nvtweak/main.htm#NVTray

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/nvtweak/main.htm#NVTweak

Install

Double-click your NVidia tray tools icon, and you should see "select coolbits mode" in the first pull-down, select it, and from here you can set up the options to fit your needs...also

make sure that you check "run NVtray at startup" in the settings option. Pull up the Nvidia control panel, select Performance and Quality settings, Additional Direct3D Settings, and change Max frames to render ahead from the default 3 to 1.

This should take care of the video hangup you guys are having and might help with the CTD.
