I have watched it on and off for the past couple of years, but coverage here in the US wasn't that great. But now every race is on speedvision and I'm addicted. Especially now that ducati has a new four cylinder bike. But honda is beating the crap out of everybody with their 5 cylinder bike. Only two races into 16 race season so there is a lot more to go. If you are down with the motogp then you need to check out here. They have tons of movies and pics from this and previous seasons. They also show all of the races live over the internet. pretty sweet :rocky:

Hehehe......

I'm a total 2 wheeled nut m8......Been riding bikes for years and follow the MotoGP.......Prefer the WSB and BSB (World and British Superbikes, but they are more popular in the UK generally) but it's all bikes so who cares lol :)!

Got one of these at the moment....... :D

Urban_Tiger: I watch as much WSB as motogp. Neil Hudgson is riping it up on the duc so far. That is a nice gsxr. I'm saving up to get my first bike hopefully I will have it before summer. I really wanted to get an aprilia RS250 but it is only sold as a track-only bike here in the states. You can find some street legal ones that are imported but they are rare. So I will most likely get a ducati monster 620s. What was your first bike?

XavierOnasis: not if you have speedvision i think it is now called speed. they cover everything from world rally to touring car to wsb and motogp. Of course that includes nascar but most of the races are on major networks.

Did you see the Dirjiro Kato crash at Suzuka? I didn't see the whole thing, just the results. It looked really bad, but I still can't believe he died. That is ######ed up :( .

Oh, I've got Speed Channel (which has degraded to more NASCAR than necessary). WRC and F1 are my favorites, with IRL/CART next.

I meant on GR.Net

Oh.. may have a chance to see the Indy 500 and/or the US Grand Prix this year. Live 3 hours north of Indy, and have those weekends off. :D

I love F1 also. I wanted to try and goto monteal to see the canadian grand prix but like I said I'm saving for a bike so I don't think I going to be able to do that this year. I also wanted to goto laguna seca to see the WSB races. I love that downhill S turn, it is classic. I spent way too much time racing on that track in GT3 and not enough time in class. But I can't do that anymore now that I have a real job. :(

Yeah speedvision is pretty much a gamble. Any time I'm about to switch to it i pray there is no nascar on. But there usually is. That is why I printed out the schedules for WSB, Motogp, and motogp 250.

Scarface,

Get stuck in m8, hope you get the bike you like soon :)!

Bit of a difference between the rip-roaring ability of the RS250 and the Duke Monster tho m8 lol......Bit like "the Ugly Duckling and the Swan" those two hehehe!! Loads of RS's available here, one of the biggest markets for them in the UK infact, very popular here :)!!

I've had loads of bikes, started young with off-roaders like Suzuki TS's and Honda CR's then got into road riding later on when I was old enough and got round to it lol. First road bike was a Suzuki GSX 600 F which is like a Sports Tourer, you may know it more commonly as the Katana over there!! Cut my teeth on that and learnt my roadcraft etc and after that have had nothing but full on Sports Bikes, all Race Replicas lol :)!

Afterthe GSX-F, got a Kawasaki ZX7R, then a Kawasaki ZX9R, next a Honda Urban Tiger Fireblade (hence nickname rofl), then changed styles for a while and got 2 Yamaha FZR400 Race Replica Exup's and then a Kawasaki ZX6R before changing that for the current GSX-R lol!!!

As for ya first bike, ultimately go for what you want and what you are legal for (obviously I don't know what bikes you can get onto straight away with the differing laws lol).

There is a huge difference between the performance and handling of the 2 bikes you mention obviously lol. If you are into Sports Bikes then you may not like the Monster much at all, but thats down to your taste. The Monsters aren't rated too highly over here tho really, they don't handle wonderfully and aren't exactly the most exiting bike to ride performance wise but we all have individual preferences as with everything!!

Also with our Satellite TV....."Eurosport GB" show the WSB and MotoGP and the Sky Sports show the UK domestic BSB and we even get the full coverage of the AMA American Superbikes too hehehe.....Loads of it in the UK rofl :)!

Yeah there is a big difference b/w the rs250 and the monster. Weight, engine, riding position, etc. Basically what I'm looking for is a bike that will be good to learn on and that won't get me killed. It must also look good too. Those are tough requirements over here in the states. Beginner bikes that look decent are hard to find. They do still make the Kantana 600 and 750, but I don't place the kantana in the good looking category. There is something in the way the fairing and the lights look that I don't like.

I really like the way the monster looks, plus I would do some upgrading to it, like getting a hi-rise exhast system and some carbon body parts. I don't plan on racing around town. I just need a bike to get my feet wet on. Something that I can ride for 6 months to a year and then purchase a faster bike.

I don't want to get a 600 sportbike b/c they push like 100 bhp now a days. I'm also thinking about the Ducati 620s supersport. It has the same engine as the monster, but different everything else.

If you have any suggestions please let me know.

LOL Scarface.....

Basically if you want a Supersports 600 then just get one m8, yes they kick out 100bhp + (mine knocks out around 112bhp with a few small mods to it at the moment lol)....BUT....

.....Essentially they'll only go as fast as you make them!!

A lot of people buy 600's as a first bike over here and get on very well with them, if you keep a level head whilst you learn then they are absolutly fine as a first bike m8. Then the performance is already there for you once you start to progress, will save you on depreciation and adjusting to another bike later on too and you'll learn with the bike :)! That's my advice anyway m8 lol. If you said you were looking at the GSX-R 1000 as a first bike then that may be a bit much, but the 600's are OK as a first bike as long as you treat them with respect and give yourself the time to gain experience on them, after that the GSX-R 600 for example is very forgiving for the odd mistake made. Even a Duke Monster could bite back if you didn't treat riding that with respect at first lol!!

The Katana's you have are different to the GSX-F's we have here but they are a bit "Jelly Mold" rofl. They aren't too popular over here and are nicknamed the "Teapot" hehehe, I just got that as a first bike because I was virtually given it, I only had it for 3 months cos I very quickly got bored and it only takes a couple of weeks to learn to use the power on bikes under 750 for example and you may well want to move on quickly, obviously thats up to you lol :)!

Another possible if you realy don't want to get straight on a Supersports bike and want something with looks that handle more like a Sportsbike.....Do you get the Suzuki SV 650 S over there?? They are a very popular first bike :)! They are a V-Twin (like the Duke's), have a sporty riding position, they handle a hell of a lot better than the Monster and only make around 10bhp more, most use them as a trainer bike if they intend to ride sportsbikes and they look good too :)! There are lots of bolt on goodies available for them and they can also be enhanced considerably too if you plan to buy bolt on bits for a bike you get!

Anyway, no doubt you'll eventually find something you like but just don't be scared to get a 600 if thats what you want anyway that's all. They are powerful agreed, but only the power you unleash with your right wrist is what's ever used isn't it lol :)!

Yep. Watched it too. I'm a big fan of MotoGP, the 250cc, and of course, the cream de la creme of all racing: FORMULA 1!!!

Daijiro Kato's crash wasn't on film. As it happened there were no cameras at the site where he crashed. Pretty bad though. He went cardiac arrest on site, but then was revived. I did see the way the Japanese paramedics handled him. Questionable stuff. They didn't even check if he had a broken neck or spine, they just hauled him onto a strecher and took him away. His was a great lost to the MotoGP community.

For those who didn't get to see the last one at Welkom Circuit in South Africa, you'd be interested to know that Daijiro's team mate Sete Gibernau won, using Daijiro's bike. It was, understandably, quite emotional. And it was a really entertaining race. Newcomer Troy Bayliss (former Superbike Champion) made a real shot for the win on his Ducati. There were also an exciting duels between Valentino Rossi (who finished second) and his bitter rival Max Biaggi. And also between Rossi and Bayliss, and Biaggi and Bayliss. Rossi ended up finishing second just 0.3 seconds behind Gibernau. And the only reason that he wind up on second was because Bayliss and Biaggi held him back too long. Had there been another lap, Rossi would've won. All in all, it was a well deserved win for Gibernau and Telefonica Movistar Honda.

Talking about sports, sorry to have veered off subject here, anyone else saw that Man. Utd v. Real Madrid game? Shame isn't it? Especially because Barthez seems to be past his prime. And Beckham is put in too late. I question Sir Alex for that decision, but eh..who am I to question him? But you have to admit that Real Madrid has some of the best players in the world, and as a team, better in quality than United. Ronaldo's goals were beautifully executed, and Zidane was just excellent.

All in all, it was an interesting week for me. Especially after the MotoGP, there was the Man.Utd v. Tottenham Hotspurs game. Which was also pretty entertaining. Van Nistelrooy is THE MAN!

Out.

Remembering always Katoh I can say that I'm italian and here in Italy, thanks to the woderful results of Capirssi, Biaggi and expecially Rossi, MotoGP is opne of the best reality we can watch, surely better than F1.

But my favourite pilot is still Mick Doohan

Don't forget another of your countrymen who is often very under-rated Giwex, good old Frankie Chili too.....

I know he's gettin on a bit and has been over in WSB for ages now but the guy can still ride like an absolute demon. He's on a 2 year old Customer Ducati and he still scraped a podium in the 2nd race at Sugo WSB, he probably would have been up there twice if he hadn't been punted off in Race 1 lol!! Hopefully Suzuki will be regretting binning him in the manner they did now he's found some form again. He's started this season of red hot on whats technically an inferior machine to the latest kit, that takes outright skill!!

He's actually more popular here in the UK than the likes of the names you mention too lol. He even turns up on track days that everyday bikers here in the UK can attend to have a go on the race tracks and gives instruction on them too :)!

Not many of em do that :)!

P.S. Foggy whoops Doohan hehehehehe :P !!

Yeah foggy is a badass. Does he race anymore, or is he just into building bikes now?

Hey xG5kdo I didn't see either of those soccer matches but they sound awesome. Did Real Madrid will UEFA last year? I can't remember. They are too good. I'm just glad Zidane played like crap last year in the world cup. The last thing I needed was for france to win another world cup.

I did see when they put Kato on the strecher and it was a questionable. They kind of flung him over onto the strecher. Not a good thing to do in a crash like that.

Ok UT you have a good point there. But if for some reason I just disappear off of these forums in the near future you will know why. B/c I bought a Honda CBR600f4i or 600RR and crashed into a old lady walking her dog. :P

Just kidding...I'm not too worried about me driving the motorcycle, I'm more worried about some lady hitting me b/c she was driving and talking on her cell phone at the same time. Of course the sportsbikes have better brakes than the monster so maybe I would make it.

Well hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will be the proud owner of a 2003 Honda CBR600 F4i. :D I really wanted the Honda 600RR, which is only $500 more. But since the bike just came out in March, honda isn't offering any finance deals so I'll just settle for the 600 f4i which is fine by me. I'm going today to get my Motorcycle Learning Permit (Because I don't have a bike to do the skills test on yet.) The MLP is pretty much the same as a regular licence, but you just can't have a passenger on your bike.

Nice one Mark.......I nearly got an RVF when I went thru my phase of 400's but managed to pick up a tricked up FZR400RR at the time instead lol!!

Scarface.....The CBR600 F is the slightly more soft or alround option than the CBR 6 RR obviously but it will be better for you to learn on, you've gone for the better option of the 2 to get going on basically m8 :)!

The 600 F's can still handle very well if you set them up right and you can get plenty of trick bolt-on bits for them too :)! Otherwise the power isn't that different to the RR version and you have got more than enough power there to not only learn with, but also enough so that you won't get bored with it after a few months. I know the RR may look slightly tricker as well but you'll still enjoy the 600 F I promise you :)!

Nothing's tricker than an RVF <_<

Mines stock apart from a Scorpion silencer and I used to have some rearsets, but they didn't survice a smash in January of this year :(

Check this out.

LOL, I'm not gonna get into an argument about trick bikes, but there's a hell of a lot tricker out there than RVF's as nice as they are lol  !

Is that the A1, A607, A52 Roundabout to the South-West of Grantham??? Have circulated that a few times myself in days gone by if it's the same one, sure looks like it tho hehehe :)!

I'm still toying over the idea of getting a second bike for Track days again too, will probably be another 400, will keep the GSX-R too of course if I haven't folded to the pressure of getting the RSV Mille I also swore I'd trade the GSX-R in for as well LMAO hehehe!!

I used to love doin track days on the FZR, on the large tracks with big straights it would obviously get ###### on in a straightline like all 400's, but I used to be able to ride round the out or inside of many of the larger capacity bikes when it came to the corners and it ended up they couldn't get away from me hehehe!! I loved that FZR too, but that got written off in a huge crash in 2000. A good old "White Van Man" pulled right out in front of me on a T-Junction and I slammed straight into the side, he very nearly wrote me off too but I got away very luckily when all told with 2 badly broken feet/ankles and a broken arm and wrist!!

If it was a stock FZR I would have gone for an RVF at the time no question as stock they are the best 400 out of the 400's, but the FZR I got had Ohlins alround, Oz wheels, Stage 3 race tune, AP Supersport Calipers and Discs, Goodridge Lines and a few other little niceties so I went for that as it was the better option by far lol :)!

My Ex had an RVF too, used to ride that a fair bit, they are great fun to chuck about and that more than makes up for the slight deficit in power to the 600's and up too, all 400's are damn good fun like that tho :)! I'd still ride them but after having litre class bikes and then dropping down to 400's for a while I got a bit frustrated with the lack of grunt so have gone for the middle option to get the best of both worlds lol :)!

LOL

I take it from your PM that that was good roundabout recognition then Mark hehehe :)!! Yikes, there's a scary thought, I'm a ###### "Roundabout Spotter" LOLOLOL!!

If ya surfing one one day and ya see some guy stood watching you in an anorak that'll be me out "Roundabout Spotting" hehehe...Jus kiddin lol!

I'm actually over in Norfolk but I was based at RAF Newton/Syerston for a while and a couple of freinds also used to go to Notts Trent Uni so "Used" to know some of the roads round that way and out in a general radius very well indeed in the never ending hunt for good biking roads, the only time I've been out there really in the last 3-4 years is going to places like Donington for WSB (when it was still there) and lots of BSB so I have kinda forgotten them which is a shame, had heard they'd done a lot of resurfacing out there, just not been out there enough to have seen it :(.

If I could drop everything I'd move back up to Scotland tho lol (was based up there for a while too), have never had so much fun on a bike without being on a track rofl :)! There's some good roads here too but just not in the quantity there is in Scotland and too much damn traffic too lol!!

BTW.....Out of interest, you said you just had the end can on there from stock, are you planning on bolting lots of bits onto the RVF or ya keeping it stock for if you come to sell it etc :)?? Have to admitt tho, they are just one of those bikes that are very good as stock and they don't need much doing to them at all improvement wise. Have you always ridden 400's too m8???

Marham?

This is going to go waaaay off topic.... but then it already is!

Just the endcan is all thats changed and I don't plan of spending much more on it. Partly I don't feel the need, and I don't have that much cash to burn.

Haven't thought about selling it but I want a twin next.

This is my first and probably only 400, I had a 125 supermoto before this!

ROFL Mark......I guessed ya Roundabout, you guessed my Parent Unit for 10 years hehehe. Indeed, I was based at RAF Marham for years m8 lol (who cares OT lol, it's what this particular section is for isn't it lol :) )! Went to dozens of other places overseas and in UK tho obviously, was just parented by Marham :)! You know the area do you, or do you just know your military bases LMAO :)???

Know what ya mean about the addons m8, I have never gone mad for them like some do except for that FZR, but most of that was already fitted when I got it though and it is expensive if you go too mad with em lol. I generally only fit an end can to make it sound nicer and have either had a re-jet or re-map depending on whether the bike was Carb'd or FI :)! I just put on a few extra practicle bits like crash bungs, Frame Protectors, Double Bubble Screens, Yoke Protectors, you know the kind of stuff I'm sure, just to keep it looking nice from the bits that wear quickly or are more prone to damage, generally leave it at that lol :)!

What twin ya going for?? As said I keep threatening to trade in the GSX-R for an RSV Mille, especially now they have really improved it more for 2003, the previous ones are good but they had some little annoying issues :)! Have test ridden many Dukes over the years as well but they felt smaller to me than most of the 400's rofl, lovely to ride for short leisure bursts, but christ they make ya sore and after a while they feel really harsh on the roads, so not too interested in them personaly lol! What do you think of the Mille??

Or ya thinking more of staying with the Jap kit hehehe?? The SP2's are nice too except for the damn Fuel Injection, Honda just don't seem to be able to get to grips with it so be prepared if you haven't ridden one before and go to test ride one m8. Suzuki and Yamaha both have excellent FI on their bikes and they have managed to almost replicate the delivery of Carbs at the bottom end but with the benefits of FI for the midrange and once you wind em up lol, it's letting Honda down a bit on that front which is a shame. I test rode the new CBR600RR about 2 weeks ago too and thoroughly enjoyed that except again for the damn FI. It was so snatchy to the point it kinda spoiled an otherwise awesome bike (the handling is awesome and it's got some power too). Twice it nearly launched me into a hedge it snatched so badly, then the third time I eased the power on really gently and progressively coming out of a corner still nicely leant over anticipating the snatchiness, then it bloody spun the rear straight up, thankfully I was in 2nd or it would have highsided me no arguments!! Nowhere near the standard of Suzuki or Yamaha's FI at all, the FI on them is gorgeous, the FI on the GSX-R is really sweet but they have used some clever electronics to do it :)!

Must admitt would also be very interested in the SV1000 too, but only if they do one fully faired (I don't like half faired or naked bikes much lol), the TL engine is awesome (ridden a few of them too in the past) and they look like they are going to be a great bike and the reviews are encouraging, fingers crossed they do a fully faired one hehehe :)! You like the SV1000??

Anyway I'm waffling now lol (apologies), hope to hear what and when ya interested in getting next m8

That's a Day sized post!

Phew....... where to start. OK

In Norfolk there's Marham and Coltishall - I guess one of the two. I'm at Waddington (don't like it!)

Of course I want a Ducati, but I doubt I'll get one for agessss....... So I'm thinking Mille, SP1, Firestorm, or if it comes to it, SV650! I fancy a change from screaming fours, ever since I went to BSB at Cadwell and saw (heard) Hizzy's 998

I don't know about the SV1000, Suzooks seem to have minimal anti-corrosion. I'd like to stay with Hondas as I know they're top dog. Of course Italian bikes have the passion, Jap Crap Bikes have the practicality.....

Of course, I need to get some more no-claims, and some more cash first!

I wanted to get a bike, but a friend of mine got one, and the very same day, he was going down a highway, and passed beside a semi-truck too closely, and he was pulled beneath it and crushed to death. That cured me of my desire to have a bike.

Link to comment

That's your opinion, fair enough, but I couldn't be without one now.

I'm not worried about death, so stories like that do nothing to discourage me from biking...

I have a car and a bike and I by far prefer the bike but it's not always the practical option.

I'll ride a bike for as long as I'm able, and when I'm not, I'll get a Goldwing ;)
