Tinker
Tend to disagree with these comments at present. Most people I play with can download 1GB files in less than 15 minutes. These days I see no reason to worry about the size of a mod for such an old game. Sure there may be a few people out there with slow connections, but don`t let it hold you back. If they like the look of your mod, they will download it. Also 7-Zip will compress the mod to a much smaller size than winrar. Rockall is 1.3GB and compressed to only 333Mb. So your 840Mb mod would probally compress to under 200Mb using the ultra settings.

wombat50
Like Tinker, I highly recommend 7Zip. However, suggest to any one downloading the mod to use 7Zip to extract. Some programs other then 7Z will extract it without errors but not all. I had a team mate that decompressed a 7Z mod with a different program and he had several errors trying to play it. Giampi
Noted what Tinker says. However here we are speaking that the wav files used weight 815MB!!! It is my opinion that you should try to reduce those files reducing, for example, the audio resolution. An open source program like Audacity might definitely help you. wombat50
Giampi makes a good point. 815MB is allot compared to the Origmiss sound folder which is 198MB. Most sounds are mono 16 bit PCM(wav) at 22050Hz. Have you added allot of new sound files?
Chudy Picio
@ Tinker: Thank you for the advice - I will try to use 7 Zip. @ wombat50: Thanks for the advices for 7 Zip. About the sound - I have added some new sound files from the Russian version of Ghost Recon 1 with DLC's (those sounds are: briefings, training talking, male and female squad talking). For the enemies sounds, for I just used the male squad talking from the English version of Ghost Recon 1 and some "null" sounds (you know, the sound of, well, nothing ). And that's it. I don't know why it is 785 MB (now). @ Giampi: Maybe I will do it - thanks for this advice. Edited March 17, 2012 by Chudy Picio
RileyFletcher_01
One thing you should think about is that if you are using sound files from the Russian version of GR, that is (I'm pretty sure) illegal to do.
Chudy Picio
@ rileyfletcher_01: You think so? Because for example Ingeloop and Migryder used the sounds from Russian version of Ghost Recon 1 in their mod, Udmurtia Spetsnaz: http://www.ghostreco...act=view&id=760 Edited March 20, 2012 by Chudy Picio
RileyFletcher_01
Well, let me say this. Al Capone killed hundreds of people, so why can't I?
Chudy Picio
@ rileyfletcher_01: But is it really illegal? So illegal that you have to compare it to killing someone? Well, all right, I can post the mod without all of those sounds. But it just won't be the same... wombat50
I'm not sure it is illegal or not. PM Rocky for his opinion.
RileyFletcher_01
Okay maybe I exaggerated, but I read a thread about a German mod the other day (old posts) and they said that they couldn't use sounds from the German version of the game as it was copyrighted property of Red Storm/Ubi. I guess you could, but be careful.
Chudy Picio
@ wombat50: Sorry for asking, but who is Rocky? @ rileyfletcher_01: Well, it is true with the German version (I have got one bought some time ago in Germany and it is fully copyrighted), but I don't remember how it is with Russian version. I think I'll try - but I'll be careful. Edited March 20, 2012 by Chudy Picio
wombat50
Rocky started and is the head man at ghostrecon.net. Send him a PM and see what he thinks of this issue.
RileyFletcher_01
Still working on this?
Chudy Picio
@ rileyfletcher_01: Of course, it is obvious that I am still working on that. Currently I am something like in the middle of the 9th mission. Also, about the Russian sound, Rocky said that, quote: "This would be okay, go ahead." So the sound will be in the mod. Wombat50 is also helping me with the pictures and stuff like that. Sorry for my lack of any information over here, but from friday to sunday I was on a convent in my hometown, so I was very busy. Also, unfortunately, today (on monday) I am going for a trip for two days, so I won't be able to work on the mod then. I hope that I will have got some more time after that. Regards. Chudy Picio
Anyone knows how can I change the vehicles icons on the in - game command map? Because I don't want to have got, for example, a jeep with a truck icon on it. Edited March 29, 2012 by Chudy Picio
RileyFletcher_01
The cmi.rsb file in the Ghost Recon\Data\Shell\Art folder. I don't know what you do with it, but that's the file you need to edit. Probably change the alpha-channel or whatever it is called.
Chudy Picio
@ rileyfletcher_01: Thanks, I got it. However, I will not edit it - I just found out that everything was fine. Maybe I am just blind... Anyway, I have got another question - how can I delete the "Ghost Recon" campaign from the campaign menu? Because now I have got my own "Russian Player Mod" campaign in it with all of the specialist's getting earned in other order etc. I know that when I will remove the "campaign" file from the "Origmiss/Mission" folder everything will be fine - but is there some other way? Because if there isn't, everyone who would like to play the mod will have to do this. Edited March 29, 2012 by Chudy Picio
RileyFletcher_01
If you changed the missions and saved them with the original name in your mod mission folder, then you don't need to delete the campaign.xml file. I would not suggest doing this, and definitely don't require others to do so. Never delete or overwrite original files, bad problems, especially when playing online. Chudy Picio
@ rileyfletcher_01: OK, so I won't delete it. But how can I then change the order of specialist's getting earned? And is there some other way to remove the "Ghost Recon" campaign, so I will have got only my "Russian Player Mod" one? Edited March 30, 2012 by Chudy Picio
RileyFletcher_01
It shouldn't matter what order. Just have your new specialists with the same names as originals so they overwrite them. You shouldn't remove it anyway, in case people still want to play that one.
Chudy Picio
@ rileyfletcher_01: OK, I'll leave it as it is. But now I have got some more serious problems - IGOR is crashing and some quick missions don't work now. I don't know why - it started so suddenly. I didn't overwrite or delete any files or anything. I reinstalled the game few times, removed all the files after deinstallation (except my mod) - but I still have got those problems. I don't know what to do with it. Can you help me? Chudy Picio
Does anyone know what can I do with my problem? I'm stuck with the mod because of it. Edited March 31, 2012 by Chudy Picio
wombat50
-Does Ghost Recon or Igor function without your mod in the mod folder? Always check the ike.log immediately after a crash for clues. I have made syntax errors in some files and the ike.log will say which file is causing the problem. - Try deleting all saves and replays from the original game and your mod. Look in Origimiss /Save folder for original game saves and replays. You may wish to make a backup of these files if they are not the problem you can then put them back.
