Burner
Hey Community,***UPDATE: March 2020: We are now only doing ARMA 3 operations at SOCOM MIlsims https://discordapp.com/invite/7TFVXKR Video featuring some cinematic Ghost Recon. Just some thoughts and ideas on this amazing title with re-playability all these years later. This is certainly a title that continues to inspire and has lots of life left in it. *Note: I am considering starting a Ghost Recon night at our team Please let me know if anyone is interested for future membership for Ghost Recon Multiplayer Operations. We will be emulating the US Navy SEALS and using realistic tactics and procedures. I intend on having a professional focused and respectful team. If Interested in future G.R. operations with us, please respond to this thread... These mods would probably be used: Desert Siege Island Thunder Fogless Navy SEALS 2.1 Droopy's General Enemy Realism Kafee Soundpack Apex's Decennium Interface Realwounds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHaTkypldAU GR is still intuitive, smooth, and tacticool. Arguably the best SOF tactical shooter ever made.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JegpKDPu5EE Respectfully, Burner Edited April 1, 2020 by Burner
wombat50
Nice videos. Enjoyed the commentary on the second one. Fogless sure does make the maps much nicer. Obviously GR doesn't have up to date graphics but they have a charm of their own. Death animations are some of the best in any game. Never have been a fan of some of the ragdoll animations out there. nyleken
I'm interested in some Ghost Recon nights, since singleplayer is getting a tad bit boring for me.

nyleken
I'll try to come later tonight if I can. It's rather unfortunate that eskwaad was rather stringent about distributing his models. His CENTCOM models are top notch.

Burner
How many guys you got in your clan so far and how often do yall play? I'm intereted in joining up, but will probably only be evailable on the weekends. Get back to me. Thanks Lambenttyto, we are just starting up the team with Ghost Recon so its a perfect time to join. We usually only met on Sundays at 2100EST, the next meeting will probably be on November 9th 2014 at 2100 EST. Gentlemen, we are recruiting dedicated SEAL Team Operators, Here's the deal....lets cut through all the formalities.... I figured this was the best place to recruit. We incooperate a Ghost Recon style of play where team work is essential. Our culture is that we like high speed stuff and have a quiet professional culture. Were a Team, a Wolfpack. Just to share a bit, we run missions every Sunday at 2100EST. We run a myriad of military sims including BMS, IL2, DCS, and ARMA and I want to bring in Ghost Recon. Our goal is professional operations were everyone is essential and a team player. Since we run in small teams, everyone is depended on and needed and you wont be another body on a huge server. If you are interested in SEAL Team Operations and are comfortable with GR and MODS, we are looking to fill positions in: ALPHA Team CQB/Assault members BRAVO Team Support machine gunners/overwatch CHARLIE Team Scout Snipers OPFOR (potentially in the future) Edited October 28, 2014 by midnabreu

twcrash
I see you add a NOCD to your downloads I have a 1.4 update that makes the exe cd less if you're interested. It comes with Ghost Recon Complete. Let me know.
Burner
Thanks TwCrash, the updated version includes the exe no longer the NOCD version. Of course this is only for people with legitimate copies of the sim. I dont like having to load each individal CD on older titles.

The concept of Ghost Recon in the ARMA 2 engine is awesome. H0owever, although ARMA does a amazing amount of things right, it misses a lot of the foundations of GR including: 1. GR AI, although not perfect, is superior than ARMAs. Enemies and Friendlies take cover and suppress more effectively. 2. The animations in GR are far more realistic compared to ARMAs weird animations. ARMA 3 although overhauled still has just akward looking animations. Heres the first of a 4 part series with some thoughts:
twcrash
yeah I agree A2 is good but it has serious issues with it as well. We need some competition with ArmA series to make BIS work on making it better running.
Lightspeed
Ok a couple of points to make: When I play/refer to GR, its all about coop or MP experience. While I did do SP campaigns it was the coop that really took it to the next level for me. Second thing is community made mods which go a loooooong way to fixing dodgy AI to the point where I would say they are as good as you can get. In fact, Robalo from the infamous Alpha Squad clan from the glory days of GR coop has completely overhauled AI behaviour so they just don't do what you see in that video. I run some very simple scripts in my missions as well which make AI behaviour very unpredictable and deadly if you're not on your toes. And just an FYI for those that do play A3, I'm working on a new GR in A3 campaign which will be the best true to GR experience I've produced. I hope you'll try it out and it will be based on the current Ukraine Conflict.Just a sample of what Robalo has achieved: - AI share info about threats with other groups in their proximity if they have radios. Enhances awareness for groups that are not directly in contact with an enemy. - AI groups coming into contact while in the open will try to move to cover. They may use smoke to conceal their movement. Helps them survive longer when caught in the open. - AI groups which do not have any pre-set waypoints may respond to danger with an attack, take defensive positions, use near houses, static or vehicle weapons. They will assess known enemy strength when considering how to react to danger. Makes then less predictable and more dangerous. - AI machinegunners use suppressive fire. Makes them more effective and feared. - Buildings are used in combat by AI. You may see AI shooting from windows or rooftops and it may not be as easy to hide in a house anymore. twcrash
I still stand by they need competition to make them do better. As far as im concerned when ArmA 2 was released and didn't run if it was ANYBODY besides BIS the community would have tore them a new one. Imagine if that was Ubisoft none of you would be " oh its ok they are trying" Pffft it would have been OFF WITH THERE HEADS!!!! lol Yeah community does alot but the US ArmA players are pretty nonexistent. Since Armed Assault we tried integrating it as a playable sim and it just died and Actually until DayZ ArmA 2 was on its death bed with like less than 5,000 players online. I just checked A3 servers online and within 60 servers the player count drops to less than 10 players per server And over 80% of those are playing Altis/Stratis life or Wasteland. very few tactical servers online and only 10 of the first 80 or so are US based and none of them are tactical. . Which is why I always said its a great game that doesn't have a serious audience. Edited November 12, 2014 by twcrash
Lightspeed
Certainly don't think BIS does a great job, if it wasn't for the community the game would have died. In fact, Dayz was created by a modded and BIS ran with it . In relation to servers and players online, I think you will find most clans schedule missions a couple of days a week. If you're interested in playing it then I can direct you to a few clans.
Burner
Second thing is community made mods which go a loooooong way to fixing dodgy AI to the point where I would say they are as good as you can get. In fact, Robalo from the infamous Alpha Squad clan from the glory days of GR coop has completely overhauled AI behaviour so they just don't do what you see in that video. I currently use a mix of GL4, SLX, ZUES, and TPWCAS recommended by ChrisB as well as a mod which I created which reduces accuracy. ChrisB tested the ultra secret KAI for A2/A3. I'll have to check out the ASR AI mod by Robalo and run it with TPWCAS suppression mod. The really awesome thing about Ghost Recon, is that the default AI (aside from sniper accuracy which is fixed by Droopy's AI mod) is really really good. I find myself tweaking and tweaking ARMA 2 AI to be more like Ghost Recon constantly. I understand and agree that as a PvP MP platform, ARMA 2/3 are awesome. However, the AI is needs some serious work. Ghost Recon AI is utterly realistic and enjoyable is the point Im trying to make. Looking foward to seeing your work with ARMA 3 lightspeed. Burner
Community, Attempting to use real life tactics like suppression, flanking and bounding in Ghost Recon Mission 01. This video demonstrates the effectiveness of using authentic tactics in a realistic tactical shooter. GR rewards you for doing things right. All team members made it to the end. Unfortunately, we forgot to equip flashbangs, extra ammo for the support machine gun, but all in all it was an awesome run. twcrash
I tried out that FP view and it works pretty well. He fixed the head being in the way and I gotta say it makes GR play different. The Market gets a WHOLE new feel using it. I have been running through Killhouse a few times and flash bangting the hell outta everyone and having a great time! Also The combination of the mods you're using are a good fit. Keep up the good work the videos are pretty awesome. On a side note I signed up for the forums but no activation email arrived (I checked slam and all other folders) Is the site not accepting signups? Thanks again.
