So, there was little me watching 'Smokey and the Bandit' (Not much else on, and an evening watching someone thrash a Firebird round isn't too bad really ) and one thing set me wondering:
How does 'bootlegging' work in the US? The whole crux of the film lies in the fact that they're not supposed to take Coors "East of Texas" - but why? If I went to Cornwall/Cardiff/Aberdeen and bought a vanload of ale, then brought it back up/down to Liverpool nobody would stop me (and there would be no point except for enjoying the scenery/sheep), or is it something to do with state taxes - if so, I was under the impression that alcohol taxes were a nationwide thing, and would that mean you could bootleg petrol, cigarettes or anything else which is taxed?
Confused but curious,
