Introduction
It seems Sixpence doesn't make anything except working on his mods. He releases a mod every two months, sometimes even two. This time he released another Total conversion, Bravo 2-5. You are playing a small group of the famous British Special Air Service (also known as SAS) in the first gulf war. You are operating behind enemy lines in Kuwait and south Iraq, doing sabotage acts, rescue POWs and hostages or completing recon missions. Sixpence took the first instead of the second gulf war because of the respect to all brave soldiers who are in Iraq right now.
Characters, Textures
The characters in this modification are a work of art. All character models except the snipermodel have been replaced by custom-made models. The standard soldiers are now British SAS troopers with the typical shemag for desert environments and they wear the desert DPM for sure ;-). They are very well made and I enjoyed playing with those guys.
But that's not all. There are several new specialists who will be unlocked during the campaign. You will also see two foreign specialists: members of the Australian SASR (Special Air Service). They are decked out in desert Auscam and wear shemags too. The other specialists are Brits again and wear nice little gimmicks like a headset.
Sixpence didn't forget to make skins for the Iraqi soldiers. They are well made and sometimes really hard to spot in some special environment. Nice desert camo, the typical dark green clothing, some other camo-types; all that is included.
Several vehicles got new textures. The Black Hawk has been reskinned to "desert" and looks really good "in-game". Also the truck, the pickup, the BMP and other vehicles are now decked out in camo that creates an "extra feeling".
The threat indicator has been reworked and now only the direction of the enemy shots are visible. This makes the game more realistic and more exciting in CQB.
Also a Jewel Case is included for those of you who like to burn this mod on a CD.
Weapons
The weapons in this modification are superb. Yodasplat and DVS1 have made an awesome job. The textures and models are all very well done and there are also brand new reticules from DVS1. I really liked the sniper reticule because it makes the game even more realistic, because you can only see the crosshairs when you zoomed in.
Here's the complete weapon list:
SA80, M16, M16/M203, M4, M4 Masterkey, M4/M203, M4 SD Sopmod, M4 Sopmod, Desert Eagle, MP5, MP5SD, M249 SAW, M60, M249 Para/ACOG, M249 Para/Aimpoint SD, M249 Para RAS SD, M249 Para ACOG SD, SVD, Silenced Sniper, L96A1, L42A1, M82, M24, M98, HK P95, Sig P226, HK SP89, 9mm Compact SMG
Maps
Guess how many custom maps are included in Bravo 2-5! No idea??
Here's the answer: 9!
City, Dunes, Mesa, Nomad from HX5
Iwo Jima by Akira
Mog Downtown, Lvov, Castle, Utah beach.
I always prefer new maps for missions because you don't know them so well as the original maps and so you will be more excited about the scripting.
Campaign
All in all the campaing has 14 long, challenging and exciting mission. Nearly every mission starts/ends with a cinematic insertion/extraction that makes the mission even more atmospheric.
I will describe one of my favourite mission but I won't spoil anything:
I find myself and my platoon flying in a Black Hawk towards our LZ. But suddenly we get shot by enemy troops from the ground. Thank god, we are in a lucrative position and are able to kill the hostiles without much work. The chopper is cycling over our LZ and after some time he lands that we can complete our mission. After we have left the chopper, we are headding to our first waypoint where we contact allied soldiers. They tell us that a strike against this position will happen in the next hour. After about one minute we hear shots from the north and enemy troops are storming our position…………………
Conclusion
What can I say? This mod has it all: new skins, new weapons, new maps, an awesome campaign. I promise, you will have hours of fun with this mod, so go, download it.
PS: Credit- and Menupics are inlcuded
Overal Score: 10/10
