'error' when PC starts up

Recommended Posts

As my PC starts up I noticed an error message appears in the DOS screen for a few seconds;

"error SB IRQ conflincting with PC IRQ"

"Creative SB16 Emulation drive NOT responding"

How can I resolve it? I'm using 98SE.

You need to right click my computer, go to properties, click device manager, and click on sound and audo devices.

Then you need to highlight your sound card, click properties, and see where and what the conflict is with.

Go into your BIOS and make sure theres not a problem with IRQ sharing.

Yeah...check that out , although I doubt you will find anything. This is starting to look like it's just on the DOS side of 98 for whatever reason.

Check the BIOS and let us know what you find.

Also, tell me what resources Windows98 says your card is using.

I've had that error before. IIRC, it was due to the fact that SB cards require a particular IRQ to function, and, for whatever reason, your SB card isn't able to get that IRQ. That may not be the case for you, but it was for me.

Yeah...Those SB cards are real partial to IRQ5. See if that is where it is, and if not, see what you can do to get it there and see if that clears up the issue.
