CENTCOM: Violence of Action

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the idea but it looks like that wasn't it. Didn't even have to deal with friendlies at all, just tanks. Didn't have the projectile files for them. Put them in. Seems to be problem solved.

Also that 7.5 GB idea is now OOF. Sitting a little above that now. Want to go and trim things but don't want to risk breaking things.

EDIT: I will go on record saying that I hate modding this game.

Violence of Action v1.0.9b is out. Check the OP for link.

There's a LOT of changes and improvements. Sound overhaul for most weapons (which I'll be redoing at some point with an idea I hope will bring a little bit more variety), SP models changed to Tertia Optio v2, weapon names show up on kits now, HU campaign missions added, CQB optic picture changes, non-magnified zoom limited to 1.25x, etc. Honestly quite different from the previous version.

EDIT: be sure to check out the update art pack in the XTRAS folder. Full artist information has been added along with some new pieces.

So with the current version out, I've got a lot of the groundwork I need setup for redoing the kits. I've gotten through brute force making kits for all the weapons and defining the general rules for how kits will work. I've got almost 12,000 kits made and will be going through them and combing them to trim it significantly.

To make sure that there's no weird weapon mixing when doing kits (basically where you have suppressed weapons embedded in the order for the non suppressed version), I'm using a numbering system to fully control the order each weapon appears. Will basically start with M4A1s and Mk18s and OPFOR weapons will be at the end. SP kits will be split into probably 10+ (maybe 20+) different folders with all sorts of different specialties to prevent long loading times for kits.

Kit images will come at an undefined time since those sound like a pain to make. But next update should have the start of better organized kits and some work of getting the weapons in MP.

I've never used it before. Didn't really think about it.

Just opened it up and it looks like not everything loads on it. Might be that some guns are .GUN and others are .gun. Could always go and play with it some to see if that's the case.

I opened P2 with it and it showed 83 in the viewer but counting .gun files in the equip folder it has roughly 300 .gun files.
So the viewer is not really worth messing with. :chagrined:

Thanks Rocky!

Currently in the process of kit pruning. For reference, here is the complete list of secondaries in standard kits in the order in which they appear in the folders and probably in-game as well:

  • Extra Ammunition
  • M136 AT4
  • Breaching Charges
  • C4 (remote charge, can actually be blown up but not used for demo objectives)
  • C4 (demolition)
  • M18A1 Claymore
  • Fakel-Stun
  • Flare White
  • FN 5-7
  • FN 5-7 suppressed
  • FN Hi-Power
  • FN Hi-Power suppressed
  • Glock 17
  • Glock 17 suppressed
  • Glock 18
  • Glock 18 suppressed
  • Glock 19
  • Glock 19 suppressed
  • HK45 suppressed
  • HK69
  • IED (remote charge)
  • IED (demolition)

  • Kimber Tactical Law Enforcement suppressed
  • M3 MAAWS
  • M9
  • M9 suppressed
  • M32 MGL
  • M67 fragmentation
  • M68 fragmentation impact
  • M72 LAW
  • M79 Thumper
  • M84 stun
  • M590
  • M590 Breaching
  • M870
  • M870 Short Breaching
  • M870 Short
  • M1014
  • M1014 Aimpoint

  • RPG-7
  • RPG-7 Taliban
  • Sig Granite Series Rail
  • Sig Granite Series Rail suppressed
  • Sig SP2009
  • Spotting Scope
  • USP Tactical
  • USP Tactical suppressed

For regular assault rifles and larger (M4s and larger), I'm limiting the secondaries to anything considered "small," so don't expect to be running around with an M4A1 and a M3 MAAWS. A Mk18 or a HK416 10" will have that as an option though.

Also eliminating anything that doesn't make a lot of sense. M4A1 and Makarov doesn't make sense to me. Stuff like that.

For basic weapons (M4A1 basic, M4A1 SOPMOD with irons, etc.), I'm limiting the selection to more basic secondaries. So no basic primary with super cool secondary.

If a grenade launcher attachment is available for a weapon, none of the standalone grenade launchers will be an option.

That's what I'm currently working with. Weapons are being reviewed on a case-by-case basis. I have a separate folder where the pre-pruned kits are in case I want to use them later. Keep in mind this is the STANDARD selection of kits, I am open to some more setups. Do plan on some MP7 secondaries for some (suggested by @SKIP on page 2).

If you have ideas, suggestions, feedback, etc., let me know. Already got some ideas on how to adjust scoped weapons and magnified optic weapons in general (bolts long stabilization time, semi-auto snipers not as long, slight increase for magnified optic weapons).

So for the MP class setup, here's the basic setup. I adjust it as necessary depending on the group.

  • Anti-Armor: rockets and missiles as secondaries
  • Breacher: breaching charges and breaching shotguns as secondaries
  • CQB Assaulter: short-barreled rifles, SMGs, and PDWs (Mk18 and smaller basically) with various secondaries
  • Demolition: battle rifles and smaller with claymores, demolition charges (for demolition objectives), and radio detonated charges (basically omnidirectional claymores)
  • Grenadier: grenade launchers as secondaries
  • Machine Gunner: machine guns with various secondaries
  • Rifleman: rifles and battle rifles (M4 and up basically) with various secondaries
  • Sniper: sniper rifles with various secondaries
  • Spotter: spotting scope as secondary

Some stats because nobody cares.

Groups which I have already sorted the kits for:

  • US Army Special Forces: 1,713 kits
    • Advisors: 118 kits (advisors make use of basic OPFOR weapons except for snipers)
    • Anti-Armor: 132 kits
    • Breacher: 123 kits
    • CQB Assaulter: 486 kits
    • Demolition: 131 kits
    • Grenadier: 63 kits
    • Machine Gunner: 136 kits
    • Rifleman: 306 kits
    • Sniper: 177 kits
    • Spotter: 41 kits
  • US Army Rangers: 1,496 kits
    • Anti-Armor: 88 kits
    • Breacher: 93 kits
    • CQB Assaulter: 294 kits
    • Demolition: 97 kits
    • Grenadier: 41 kits
    • Machine Gunner: 220 kits
    • Rifleman: 424 kits
    • Sniper: 208 kits
    • Spotter: 31 kits
  • US Navy SEALs Classic: 167 kits (I will reorganize this to more less folders at some point and have overlap between models in terms of what weapons they get)
    • Anti-Armor: 19 kits
    • Breacher: 21 kits
    • CQB Assaulter: 22 kits
    • Demolition: 97 kits
    • Grenadier: 7 kits
    • Machine Gunner: 5 kits
    • Rifleman: 24 kits
    • Sniper: 12 kits
    • Spotter: 7 kits
  • US Navy SEALs Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure: 568 kits
    • Each model will just have access to everything since the number is low enough and the models aren't overly specialized
  • US FBI Hostage Rescue Team: 1,753 kits
    • Breacher: 141 kits
    • CQB Assaulter: 576 kits
    • Demolition: 145 kits
    • Grenadier: 105 kits
    • Machine Gunner: 90 kits
    • Rifleman: 456 kits
    • Sniper: 193 kits
    • Spotter: 47 kits
  • British Special Air Service: 754 kits
    • Anti-Armor: 34 kits
    • Breacher: 60 kits
    • CQB Assaulter: 247 kits
    • Demolition: 63 kits
    • Grenadier: 20 kits
    • Machine Gunner: 38 kits
    • Rifleman: 141 kits
    • Sniper: 131 kits
    • Spotter: 20 kits

And for the groups I still have to sort the kits for:

  • OPFOR
  • US CIA Ground Branch
  • US Army Delta Force
  • US Navy NSWDG (DEVGRU)

Probably going to remove the Tertia Optio skins at some point and replace them with a simplified set since I plan on using different models at some point for SP and a MP group to have literally everything.

Also did a quick reskin thing to the M110s where I just used one of the net camouflage patterns from Wildlands (had to modify it slightly for the desert one).

Starting to test out some of the new MP kit restrictions. Got some setups for Navy SEALs Classic, SEALs VBSS, and FBI HRT.

One thing I'm doing is trying to make all models work for all environments (except very specific things like the VBSS models). Some will be easier than others. I've already made the woodland version of the Special Forces ball cap guy (literally replace the leg textures and done oof). Also did a couple of the SEALs: the pointman. The pointman uses 2 models: one with a boonie hat for the desert and one with a bald head and swim fins for woodland and tropical. I made a woodland boonie hat one and a desert swimmer.

20190102233006_1.thumb.jpg.c25b6bfe35d2fbfa46c866ab0ed90704.jpg20190102232950_1.thumb.jpg.77d278347208524dbd63716362db9e19.jpg20190102232943_1.thumb.jpg.aedb5ad639230443d5bfd6e8350dcfd9.jpg20190102232938_1.thumb.jpg.de35adbde223bcaf7df26dab66b1d4c7.jpg20190102232932_1.thumb.jpg.8710acee538f2d0b5bdcd412799bde5b.jpg20190102232617_1.thumb.jpg.8a293d42ebb8ae0e1ea714de0c15536d.jpg20190102232610_1.thumb.jpg.071bb148386f40629b6e42d029963f68.jpg

The desert swimmer is kind of out of place but at least the option exists. Other models I know of are the SEAL M14 rifleman with the SPEAR jacket (woodland is bloused pants, knee pads, beanie, and backpack while desert is unbloused pants, no kneepads, balaclava, and camelbak). The Air Force Pararescue and SEAL CQB also have different models for different environments.

Not sure if I have too many hi-res textures. Some texture issues that go away when I get close enough or zoom in. Look at the right side next to the trees.20190104092940_1.thumb.jpg.64860f0af729f299651630b3dda05d41.jpg

Not sure I'm following. Are you talking about the change of appearance of the character in the first two screenies?
If so it could be due to the different LODs not being assigned the same texture in the .chr file?
I didn't notice anything besides the first two pics.

Yes, talking about the change in appearance. I'll have to investigate further (thanks for pointing me in a direction to look at) or maybe just ignore the different LODs entirely and probably break the game.

Also, a look at the standard AI backup setups for MP. Lots of options that should cover just about any mission. Let me know if there's any particular setup you want to see.

Been play-testing this with Jack. It's really phenomenal. The emphasis on CQB is incredibly fun and addicting, and the weapon setups & new equipment the mod introduces really lends itself to MOUT operations. Great stuff, looking forward to seeing what else comes out of this mod.

It's been a good time. Been working on a lot of MP upgrades. Got a few factions with lots of AI backup options, so you're set for almost any mission.

Also got some sound updates for more weapons.

Thanks to testing with Zebra and the others from CAST, we figured out that the non-magnified zoom of 1.25x is too low due to OGR's aiming resolution thing, so will be testing 1.5x zoom. Sucks that OGR has the aiming resolution thing that makes shooting accurately almost impossible without moving and doesn't encourage tactical gameplay.

Kit icons still need to be done at some point. I also managed to use a very similar naming convention to CENTCOM so a few of the kit icons actually show up, huh.

Version 1.0.10b is out, link in OP. Lots of stuff here. Size jumped from like 8 GB to 9.8 GB. It's worth it trust me. Lots of MP kit restrictions that still aren't complete (got some groups to add and sort out).

Still having the skin issue. Basically once one of the player characters has moved far enough away, the skin seems to switch to one of another environment. This has happened on pretty much all of the Eskwaad models included. And I've tested removing the LOD versions of models. Doesn't fix things. It's annoying but not sure what to do except for try making separate actor files and kit restrictions for each environment. And pretty sure that's not happening.

2gb download and it's well worth it. Can't wait to play this more tonight. We're looking for other people to test this thing, too, BTW.

Version 1.0.11b is out, link in OP. Pretty much got all of the various CENTCOM models being used since I've added a bunch more MP kit restrictions. I removed the Tertia Optio skins since they take up lots of space (600 MB) and the hand placement issue. SP now uses default CENTCOM guys with expanded kits.

New maps added as well. I need to start making some missions at some point. Also got a test PvP kit restriction which is based on the following ideas:

  • Magnified weapons banned
  • No suppressors
  • No grenade launchers

It uses Army Infantry, Navy SEALs Classic, UK SAS, and Marines Infantry for the different groups.

MP kit restriction list:

Got some goodies here. Did the reskins of both the SPEAR jacket guys so both models are available for all environments.

I'm looking forward to trying this campaign out soon.  My old system had MAJOR issues, and I've just finished building a new one.

Eager is not the word for it.  Everything, as usual, looks Topnotch.  THANK YOU SO MUCH for your hard work and generosity!  👍😄👍

Lots of stuff coming in the next version, including several PvP kit restrictions. Also not sure how crazy I'm going to go with the Ghost skins.

Some custom skins for me:

If you want some custom skins for yourself, let me know and I can put something together.

Also added links to CENTCOM in the OP. One is for the GR.net download page and the other is the fully patched version on my computer.
