transduction
I just installed the GR mod "DEA's Most Wanted," and its working. The trouble is, it is lagging bad, which makes no sense because I'm running this 14 year old game on a Alienware laptop I just bought a few years ago. Should be running GR at 60 frames per second, instead the game is lagging so bad I can barely move and shoot. Below are my Dxdiag setting. I turned down the graphic settings but to have to do that on a 14 year old game is ridiculous, even GRAW 1 and 2 runs smoother on this machine. What I notice is that when I start looking in the direction of trees and building the game lags and when I look in places without lots of objects like buildings/trees the frame rate speeds up. Also why must I run GR with integrated graphics card rather than my Nvidia Geforce card? This computer runs Ghost Recon Phantoms, and Splinter Cell Blacklist with no issues. For it to have problems with the original Ghost Recon is insane. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 3/23/2015, 15:04:16 Machine name: MASTERMIND-PC Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.150202-1526) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Alienware System Model: M11x R2 BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: Intel® Core i3 CPU U 330 @ 1.20GHz (4 CPUs), ~1.2GHz Memory: 4096MB RAM Available OS Memory: 3894MB RAM Page File: 3074MB used, 4711MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11 DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: Using System DPI System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.01.7601.17514 32bit Unicode ------------ DxDiag Notes ------------ Display Tab 1: No problems found. ApexMods
Something is definitely off here. I'm running Ghost Recon inside a WinXP virtual machine on a MacBook Air (2012) with similar specs and the same screen resolution with the game's graphics details maxed out, and I usually get around 60 fps throughout. Do you experience performance problems with vanilla GR / without any mods active, too?
wombat50
transduction wrote: Also why must I run GR with integrated graphics card rather than my Nvidia Geforce card? Check your BIOS to see if it is possible to disable onboard graphics and enable the video card. I don't know if this is a possibility or not. Your onboard graphics seem to be more then enough. I am curious, as ApexMods is, how GR runs with only DS and IT activated patched to 1.4. D/L'ing the DEA mod to see how it runs on my computer. EDIT: The below wave sounds from the DEA sound folder will not play in WMP or Audacity and report no bitrate. Files in these folders: F_Voice_1, M_Voice_1, M_Voice_2 Russian Voice folder: em1_humming1 thru em1_humming8 em1_mutter1 thru em1_mutter10 em1_whistling1 thru em1_whistling5 The following in the main sound folder: a_exmetal, a_exmetalammo, a_smoldertank2, jw_knock, jw_scream, v_apc_c, v_apc_g, v_apc_gr, v_apc_m, v_apc_mg v_bmp3, v_bmp3_g v_m1_c, v_m1_g, v_m1_gr, v_m1_id, v_m1_m Maybe the archive I downloaded is corrupt? Will have a play and see how the mod works for me. EDIT2: Played through the first 4 missions with teamshadow on and did not get any unplayable lag. Dipped to 30fps once and some minor dips to 50-55 fps. The Tof maps are pretty heavy using resources. Did not get any crashes but got allot of this entry in the ike.log: RSSndMgr: Error downloading effectE_INVALIDARG. May be related to the corrupt sound files in my version. Also allot of Sound UnInitialized(several thousand entries)in my ike.log which is related to misnaming one or more of the custom vehicles. Not much help but I took a stab at it. transduction
Its been a while since I played the Original GR. I played IT and DS about a year ago and I completed both. The lag seems to depend on the map, on some maps it is worse than others. I recently completed the "Clear and Present Danger 2" mod and some maps were okay and others were a hassle. Maps with lots of trees and buildings in the background tend to slow down the computer when you look in the direction of the trees and other objects, and then when you look away to an area that has few objects, the game speeds up to a normal 60 fps. If I look at the sky or look at the ground the game runs ultra smooth. The moment I start looking in the direction of buildings, trees, or other objects, the frame rate plummets. How do I get the same smooth frame rate that I get when looking at the sky and ground when looking at buildings, trees and other objects? transduction
Update - I'm playing the second mission, which takes place outdoors with lots of trees and there is very little lag. I beat the first mission on the DEA mod and the lag stopped once I got inside the building. It seems like the lag depends on the map you're playing and where you are on the map. Certain areas lag while others are smooth.
wombat50
Agreed, that some frame rate issues are map related. One custom map always bogs me in a particular area of the map. Why I don't know. IMO the stock RSE maps suffer from this the least. How much scripting or number of objects effects frame rate I am also unsure about. One issue I had was a mod where the Opfor characters had only one LOD setting and this caused some lag. When those OPFOR characters were given 3 LOD settings there was a noticeable increase in framerate. Maybe you know about it already that there is a console command, ToggleShowFrameRate, that will put a meter in the upper LH corner of the screen while playing. ApexMods
In game options, try setting "Vehicle Shadows" to "Low LOD" and "Human Shadows" to "All Low LOD". Higher shadow detail can cause severe performance degradation e.g. on missions with many enemies. I'd recommended not to set vehicle or human shadows to high detail in any case, as there is a known bug in the game that causes detailed shadows to erroneously appear e.g. through fog or even walls. twcrash
also make sure the older directx stuff is installed. it makes a difference because the newer windows doesn't install these right off. I think 9.0c is the main one.
ApexMods
Good point, Crash. Also, I just noticed what Transduction mentioned about the graphics cards: Why must I run GR with integrated graphics card rather than my Nvidia Geforce card? Not sure how to do this on PC/Windows, but can you disable integrated graphics for individual applications i.e. force the game to use your discrete Nvidia card instead, e.g. via a Control Panel (maybe something like energy savings) or some other utility?
