Rocky
Mate called me up to say his PC was "locked" and could not get into it, some warning about porn. I'm not sure if it was the porn or the challenge that got me round there but what I found was interesting. Once the PC booted to desktop, the full screen was taken over with a warning that the police crime unit had locked the PC due to illegal activity including porn, and that to unlock it, you had to send £100 by entering the details in a payment window. There was even a fake "live video feed" to try and prove they were watching you. LMAO!!! Usually I would boot into safe mode and delete anything that was set to run at startup in msconfig, that I didn't recognise. However this virus managed to prevent any of the safeboot options, so I had to google an answer, which led me to a youtube video of the removal process. Basically, without a windows CD to hand, you have to remove the HD and put it in as a slave on another PC to allow access to folders and delete the bad files! Never had to actually remove a HD before to get rod of a virus. The HD is in my daughters PC right now running a AV scan. :op

WytchDokta
I had this on my old rig. Did my own investigations on it, suspecting it was a virus, on my phone. Turned up many threads stating it was indeed a virus. In my case, I actually recovered my desktop and relevant functionality by booting up a previous System Restore point, then did several virus/malware scans etc, fixed it that way. Guess I got lucky. Rocky
I cleared it off using malwarebytes and MSE. Or I thought I did, he's just been back on the phone, it came back after the 2nd boot (
pz3
Viruses tend to replicate themselfs in the strangest places on a drives some times. I remember having a virus that replicated onto a flash drive. I formated the flash drive and it still remained on it. It took a few full reformats to actually remove it from my poor little drive. Thank god that virus was only interested in replication though. It really didn't do anythinf else. Sometimes they find their ways into any memory on any device they can. WytchDokta
I just had a dream about this virus. I need to take some time away from the computer. Mate, sounds to me like you've got OCD - Obsessive Computer Disorder. Dreaming about computer related stuff is a symptom of stage one, meaning OCD has already onset, at which point, OCD is incurable. Any updates Rocky, did the guy manage to get rid of it again after it came back?
