Anyone out there use Skype? never used it before. Looking at installing for other reasons, but looking at the wiki artilce I was a little unsure as to this bit:

Some network administrators have banned Skype on corporate, government, home, and education networks, citing reasons such as inappropriate usage of resources, excessive bandwidth usage, and security concerns

I think most people here have used it. Initially years ago, it was a bit suspicious as it installed a lot of other junk being freeware and all, but I think it got a bit more respectable after being bought over by eBay, and now Microsoft.

I think it's pretty safe to try, but you may want to change your preferences so it is not always running in the background and you are not always logged in (kind of same prob we are having now with Gmail)

I used to use Skype to chat to a few people on here like Davros and Zero but I was getting so many spam messages popping up I removed it from my PC, this is a couple of years back so maybe they have made it more secure these days.

Not sure how they did it but they used to appear in the chat window, I had everything from people selling clothes to porn sites.

I've never had any spam problems on skype, sometimes just disconnecting, but I do know that Skype employees here in Estonia are actually working 24/7 if they have to, just so your Skype calls don't have any problems ;).

Can anyone explain the push to talk function?

Tools/Options/Advanced/Hotkeys

There is mute microphone and toggle mute options. It seems you are able to set up a hotkey to mute your mic, the opposite of what push to talk means? I have tried settings my windows microphone option to mute and use PTT, but no good.

You can select a friend in the list and individually mute them, will 1 keybound unmute all? Any advice about PTT would be appreciated.

Push to talk doesn't work with Skype, Microphone is activated all the time or just mute yours. You can mute and unmute other people with right click. Might be able to map a key for the headset yet, still looking into it.
