bigcat75
Can anyone confirm yet what differences if any there are between the 360 and pc game? I googled but found nothing but a few vague opinions. I need facts before I buy. I played my roommates 360 version and if the pc is identical I might go with Arma2 instead. p.s. no OFPDR vs Arma2 debate please, lol. bigcat75
Thank you guys, I worded my question poorly though. What I meant was are the campaign missions identical? On the console version I played (up to mission #6) the objectives are given to you in a way that you basically have to play each mission one way, same way, every time. It's like Go here, now go there, hurry and eliminate these guys or mission scrub, etc etc. I was expecting more control over the game, less control of the game over me. If the pc is the identical gameplay I'll have to pass for now. Maybe I'll get it later when there are more co-op mods.
doubletap
I agree with your point about the linear objectives and having to "beat the clock" as I put it, but if your focus is on campaign missions, I think it's a mistake to expect Arma II to be more enjoyable. They are each better than the other in different areas. Arma II clearly is the winner as far as open sandbox and freedom, but this same ambitious design is the campaign's downfall in some ways. Don't get me wrong, IMO a sim can NEVER be too open, the more freedom the better, but there are issues with triggering and other weird things with the A.I. and objectives. I preordered the 360 and pc versions of OFPDR.. My 360 version arrived 4 days before the pc, and after playing the first 8 missions I decided I would return the unopened pc version because of the very same reasons you mentioned. BUT, I changed my mind because for SP and coop, with regards to stock campaigns, what else is out there? At the moment nothing comes close to DR as far as delivering an arguably very GR type game. It's very much like GR with an unfortunate but very minor touch of GR2(xbox), namely the frequent "next objective" triggers. Yes the campaign lacks some replay value because of linear objectives, but I figure I'll play the campaign in coop a few times and by then there will be some descent coop mods we can all move on to. bigcat75
Thanks for the advice everyone. I went ahead and got the game, just installed it last night. To answer my own question, yes it looks like both versions have identical campaigns and gameplay. But of course the editor and mods will make this many times better than console.
