Given the prevalence of unsecured wireless access points these days, I imagine stealing passwords and other information is rampant. I'm getting a new laptop soon and I'm worried about security. I'm going to encrypt the entire hard drive but I was wondering about logging into websites on an unsecured connection. If I connect through HTTPS (SSL encrypted) does that only encrypt after the password has been sent or does it encrypt the password too? I'm thinking about sites that use it like Gmail and others and whether or not it's safe to use these sites on open networks. Thanks in advance. :)

Once you connection says https: you are already on a secure line (VPN in effect) all data is SSL 128bit encrypted by std.
