Guest
Nice flamingo shot Papa. How close were you? Well, since no-one has posted in quite a while, I'll put up a couple commercial shots I did a few days ago. First shot was 10sec and the second shot was 30sec
Ruin
Durka, I love that second shot. Excellent work. The first one is very good as well. What did you take them for?
Guest
Durka, I love that second shot. Excellent work. The first one is very good as well. What did you take them for? Thanks. They were product shots for the company who put them up Edited May 2, 2008 by durka-durka

Well, since no-one has posted in quite a while, I'll put up a couple commercial shots I did a few days ago. First shot was 10sec and the second shot was 30sec um I think about 6 to 10 feet, using my 300mm lens
Papa6
my first attempt at HDR photography
Guest
Great shot Papa. That's DC I'm assuming? I can never get that HDR thing to work, but I haven't really studied it much either. I usually just stack layer upon layer and erase. This is probably the best HDR I've seen in a while.
dporter
Here's some of our Father and Son camp out on Lake Anna this past weekend. On the high res version of this picure you can see the little specks of dirt he's dropping out of his hands in great detail. That's it from the novice for now. I'll turn it back over to those who know what they're doing.
Guest
haha, this is for everyone D! The dirt shot is really cool and I can see what you're talking about. The middle shot is nice in that it is at eye level. If one ever wants to get good shots of their kids, they need to take them at eye level or at angles other than standing up, looking down. Were you guys camping that day?
dporter
Were you guys camping that day? Yep, father and son campout we had for church. There was a bunch of us. He had fund getting muddy and he caught his first fish. Now all I hear from him all day is when we're going camping all day. I think I need to get one of those poles that shoot the lure out though becuase he snagged about 3 kids swinging the pole around.
Papa6
thanks durka. great shots dporter. durka, to get a good HDR shot you have to adjust your Auto exposure bracketting (AEB with canon cams) it's in the menu system of canons. I setup up a 3 shot group. I did a +1 exposure, a zero exposure and a -1 exposure. then in CS3, go to file/automate/merge to HDR. added: whoops!, also!, use a tripod. I used my auto timer to shoot the shots so I don't shake the camera. just the basics there. But ONLY use RAW files. PS CS2 is the same thing. NOTE!!!!; that shot above of the sunset isn't HDR in that I missed a step or two. below is a HDR shot. some can look garish, some can look more real. I like mine more realistic. don't mind the composition, I was out to practise my technique. BEFORE AFTER, having adjusted the shot to rid it of the halo. Papa6
I am more concerned at this point and time with technique rather than composition. so being a work of art isn't important with this shot below. I enjoy HDR 100% more than regular shots.

SnowFella
Can't say I'm much of a photographer nor have even a remotely good camera but here's some recent snaps that I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. Will also reveal that I'm one of those slightly nuts ppl that roam the backyard at night armed with a flashlight and my camera hunting insects Insect, mainly spider, nightshots taken using macro and flash. All in my own backyard, still ain't got any good ones of the Redback spiders (our version of Black Widow) we have all over the backyard as I'm alittle to cautious in getting my fingers just inches away from them with the camera. Quite tricky getting the autofocus to focus on them in the dark though, generally use my LED flashlight to illuminate them so the camera can focus and then pull the flashlight beam off before I snap the pic. Jenolan Caves underground river. Night shot, can't go any longer in shutter times before it starts getting to grainy with this camera. Decent for a handheld shot though. Guest
So my sister comes in town over the weekend, and we had this big conversation about never taking pictures of my kid or hers, so she wants some family photos done for her kids and such. Then we got into an argument about creative portraits vs. the regular studio-type posed shots. I'm all for creative approaches, and she wants nothing but cheezy photo-ops and such. (since she's my sister and not paying me, I can argue with her) So, in the middle of the argument, I got my camera out and decided to show her some creative approaches to regular shoots. I took the kids out and just had them stand in the yard, and had my assistant (i.e. mom) point the off-camera flash at the kids while I snapped away. Seeing as how this was a 5min set-up, a 5min shoot, and 5min in photoshop, I thought I did a good job of illustrating to my sis that small, simple creative approaches can make a world of difference. SETUP: Me lying on my back in the hot E. Tennessee grass, pointing up at the kids. EXPOSURE: Shutter - 1/80, Aperature f.14 with ISO of 100 and a circular polarizer to add to the contrast of the sky/clouds. LIGHTING: One Canon speedlite held off-camera to the left about 3ft from the kids on ETTL adjusted to -1 stop. No diffusion. Sunlight to camera right. Guest
Good Read Rocky... All those are sound ways that anyone with a huge rig or a little disposable camera can do. I thought it was funny that the first comment on that blog was the person saying she needed to get a new camera to get photos like that, which is entirely false. Cpl Ledanek
I took this in 2005, day after my wife's birthday...it was crappy IMHO, but I figure I need some practice with the old Photoshop...eh, just nothing really to contribute: and my goddaughter Megan when she was 4 months old: ...again some Photoshop taken with my old Epson 3Meg Digicam.
