Ruin Goes Shooting II

Recommended Posts

I met up with some guys from AR15.com on Saturday and got to play with some very nice and very expensive guns. They were all kind and happily let me shoot off a few rounds on each one. I had a blast ( ;) ).

I thought I'd share some photos and some videos with you all...

Give me a few minutes to get them all going...

It was absolutely incredible. That 50cal nearly knocked me back off the bench! It was so intense, I had to do it again, haha.

At one point, the guy who owns it didn't warn me he was firing it... so I was in the lane to the left of it using a spotting scope helping someone else zero in his rifle... all of the sudden this thing goes off and the force made my hair stand up on end, it was crazy.

Next he decided to put in some tracer rounds. They ended up bouncing off of something and flying in the air like a flare gun... one landed on some brush, and luckily we caught it in time and put out the fire... that was funny after we knew the fire had died. Last thing we'd want to be is responsible for setting acres of land on fire shooting of 50BMG tracers, lol.

The M60 was something out of a dream too, simply WOW. The guy who owned it was even nice enough to hand me about 30 rounds of 44Mag because I talked about it costing so much.

Three cases mid-air ain't bad, but I've seen a guy do that with a bolt action rifle...

Awsome pictures.

Just to demonstrate that he was playing with a burst fire mode.

Glad you like the pics, I'm quite proud of them. :D

Hey Ruin, glad you found a good group to shoot with. Nice to see that you finally got out to a REAL shoot.

Keep hanging around those people, and next thing you know, you will find yourself unloading 30,000 rounds a year at a minimum.

Back in the day, 50,000 or more was not uncommon to me. I have not had much shooting time this year. <_< So far that is. I guess I will have to make up for lost time this summer. :)

Thanks for sharing the pics. Keep rolling those rounds out.

EDIT:

BTW, save up stuff like old dead CPUs, safes, furniture, ect... These items make for some good shooting. Not mention the fact that it is good to be able to see the effects of round on actual objects.

Also, I found that making a thick mixture of Knox geletin, or starch in bags of water make a decent medium for testing hollowpoints.

I'm hoping we do a similar thing next month. They're a great group of guys and were just way too friendly.

I'll keep those targets in mind, goodness knows I have enough spare PC parts laying around to have some fun with, haha.

Tracers and dry grass/bushes really don't mix as you found out! Never going to forget a summers day spent at the range with 4 Mag58's loaded with every 4th round a tracer. We just got darn lucky the resulting grassfire never reached out UXO containment area before it got put out.

Not so sure I'd want to open up with normal ammo against a safe though jchung, tend to be to solid for the rounds to penetrate and you never know where the bouncing bullets will end up.

Good example of that.

Except those who shoot you with one right? :D

I wish we had more gun shows around here. The Expo center near by has some once in a blue moon, but cost like $10 to get into and they never advertise for it. It's really a shame.

@Snowfella, yeah, it was really amazing. What was very interesting though was that it somehow found the only patch of dry brush in the area, seeing as it rained just earlier in the morning. go figure huh?

Wow, that was funny to see because I have never seen that happen. Here is a pic of a "fire proof" safe we laid into with Speer Gold Dot .45ACP rounds, and also a bunch of 5.56mm rounds out of an M16.

The metal plating must have been much thicker on that safe they were shooting. I would probably only use a .338Lapua, or .50BMG for larger safes like that.

In North Carolina, I can own anything from a little pea shotting Walther P22 to a Ma Deuce AA gun. Just go through the proper motions with the state and the BATF, and you're good to go. The gun laws in NC rock (except the whole, buying ammo age limit thing - that's why I LOVE pawn shops, hehe).

Glad you like the pics!

That depends where you want to move. :D

Some places in the United States have awful firearm laws. I would say the states with the most restrictive firearm laws are: California, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Massachusetts.
