    Unforgettable images

One of my favourite shots has to be St. Paul's Cathedral during the Blitz, along with earthrise on the moon. My most unforgettable image however, is of Apollo 17 Astronaut Jack Schmitt running across the Moon's surface to prospect for samples at Camelot crater. How must it have felt being the first, last and only scientist to have walked on the face of another world, and even then knowing how little time there was to do so?

    Any aircraft spotters here?

I quite often get to see these (and various other flying things) around here - Only just missed out on a lift from one as well a few weeks ago

    A Loving Husband

    Hahaha! Classic!
  5. Heh, I know it's Hollywood, I just assumed that there was some factual background as to why it was 'illegal' as they don't explain why in the film - leading me to believe there was some sort of common knowledge which they expected the audience to understand and that I was unaware of! On a slightly related note is there any truth about 'running for the border' in the US then? Again I've seen films of chases stopping at the border due to jurisdiction but is that again a case of 'Hollywood-isation' and running for the border for real in the US would be as much use as say, running for the England-Wales border here (or maybe even my flower border for that matter)? I'm still coming to terms with that fact that TV and Hollywood might have lied to me! [edit] Oh, and is Burt Reynolds impossible-looking moustache real then or was that invented for the film too?[/edit]
  6. So, there was little me watching 'Smokey and the Bandit' (Not much else on, and an evening watching someone thrash a Firebird round isn't too bad really ) and one thing set me wondering: How does 'bootlegging' work in the US? The whole crux of the film lies in the fact that they're not supposed to take Coors "East of Texas" - but why? If I went to Cornwall/Cardiff/Aberdeen and bought a vanload of ale, then brought it back up/down to Liverpool nobody would stop me (and there would be no point except for enjoying the scenery/sheep), or is it something to do with state taxes - if so, I was under the impression that alcohol taxes were a nationwide thing, and would that mean you could bootleg petrol, cigarettes or anything else which is taxed? Confused but curious, Dickie

    Ruin Enlists

Sounds like an interesting role Is this a strictly part time (I assume the National Guard is part time, like the TA is here?) thing for you, or do you plan to join the regular army in the future?

    SSAFA battle with NIMBY neighbours

A couple of other threads on this subject - http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=284330 http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=285534 I just can't understand the attitudes of some people
  13. I was more worried by whatever it was that kept making my page jump back to the Orange advert in the middle of the page. Is THAT going to be a common thing in the future?!

    Ruin's '69 Corvette Progress Thread

I've just come across this thread (how did I miss it?! ) - and you are one lucky bloke! Looking nice so far, is the red the original colour? Oh, and if we ask very nicely is there any chance of some sort of video or sound recording when you get it fired up?

    Stairway to heaven - backwards?!

Wiki entry here. Seems to be more of a coincidence (according to the band and the label), but it's still pretty neat. This website has the supposed full 'backwards lyrics' on it, and includes this quote: Satanic or not, Stairway to Heaven is still one of the best songs ever.
