  1. There was an interesting article on ArsTechnica. It dealt primarily with older games from the 80s, but the points are still relevant to this discussion. Summary: How to please the hardcore fanbase while making the game accessible to a larger audience? http://arstechnica.com/articles/culture/ga...s-come-back.ars Thoughts?
  2. Not every theme transferred successfully. COOP was a disaster for GRAW and it's successors. The ability to host & run tournaments, a community event that drew us together, cannot be understated. Unfortunately, the enjoyment lasted only a couple months. We all know the reasons why Ghost Recon lasted for 4 years. Long tail economics can still be very powerful AND profitable. I add my shout to this thread. Bring back the old Ghost Recon.
  3. Hey folks...for a limited time only... Dedicated Server up and running with Heroes Unleashed. Stop on by! http://www.ghostrecon.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=51393
  4. Special Detachment presents an opportunity to play the latest unofficial expansion pack on our 100mbit dedicated server: ^ CLICK TO DOWNLOAD (MAC & PC) ^ SERVER IS DOWN, 12/26/08, due to lack of participation (zero joins in 3 days). Bandwidth has been shifted back to ArmA. PM rossiski if you want to have a dedicated running. Come over to the +SD forums for joining requirements. In short: - TEAMSPEAK is Mandatory...no exceptions. - Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be accepted. Come on folks, we're all adults here. - Have fun! - Server will run f
  5. Would a dedicated server be appreciated for the time being or are others thinking of quick user-created games?
  6. Two words... Coop gameplay. There really has not been a game since that takes coop to the level that GR did. After the MP deathmatch folks got bored and move to the next flashy game, Ghost Recon provided an almost-infinitely variable platform for repeatable, enjoyable coop gameplay. That's what contributed to 4 groundbreaking years of community support, IMO.
  7. We need multiplayer time with this. Who's onboard for some coop GR, voicecomm goodness?
  8. I'm surprised that the article from C&VG didn't mention ArmA. There are games out there provide a great coop experience. EDIT: Coop never died. Many are talking about "bringing the good old days back." Fans follow it's best implementation at any given time.
  9. We've been using ArmA lately for our coop and I have to say I'm very impressed. I believe this is the future for our group. Honestly, the first time I was a passenger on a "little bird" heading into battle was awesome...seeing those miles and miles of landscape roll beneath me. The realism is very addicting and I think I'm hooked. Also, I can't imagine gaming without vehicles now. How did I ever live without an M1A1 Abrams? Sheesh! Additionally, the ballistics are something that increases the level of realism. Knowing that you have to compensate for elevation really makes this
  10. Actually, you're probably closer to medium with that graphics card. You're not pulling any high, though. And it's stable...I've played one mission for close to 12 hours straight without any server issue.
  11. Oh lord. Sounds like an episode of Futurama. Over here they would be the comic book guy from the Simpsons. That is freaking hilarious. I can totally see that happening... New Futurama episodes coming
