  2. At this point, I would have to say: ONE thing to remove: - Remove "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon:" from the game's title ONE thing to add: - Add "Ubisoft's" to the game's title Ubisoft's Future Soldier - yes, that sounds about right.
  3. Great, thanks a lot. Would you post a link, please?
  4. Welcome back, Zeko! While I hardly find the time to frequent game servers e.g. at GameRanger and Xfire anymore, I still play the occasional SP and LAN/Direct IP with my friends. Had to move some time ago and 'infected' many friends in my new hometown with GR, so now there's a little community of about a dozen GR fanatics here (girlfriends/wives included), mostly playing Co-Op on LAN at the weekend. Pity I don't find the time to join them more often.
  5. A little update on Valve's experience with Steam for Mac (from Valve's Steam Blog): With Steam offering only a handful of games for Mac so far, an 11% share of sales within the first week at the market leader for digital games distribution (Steam controls an estimated 70% of the market) is not too shabby. It certainly shows the business potential of cross-platform development and should be a wake-up call for all game developers. Especially now that Apple has passed Microsoft as the world's largest tech company, this will most likely inspire a few platform policy changes at other game
  6. Don't know if ArmA2 will ever quite fit the bill, due to its overbearing complexity (e.g. I don't even want to drive vehicles in a tac shooter) and the cumbersome controls that come with it. ArmA2 probably is a great game once you get the hang of it, but it simply doesn't immerse me like GR does. Even after playing for quite some time, ArmA2's controls never feel natural and immediate to me, and I'm constantly reminded that I'm playing a computer game, whereas The One Ghost Recon™ lets me forget that fact within minutes of gameplay. But it looks like there may be a new contender. Looks p
  7. This looks very very interesting! Definitely on my buy list, unless it comes with Ubisoft-esque DRM. Nice that you'll do an interview with the devs, Paladin. Please make sure to get their take on the GR franchise and whether they were influenced by it, and maybe ask them about their stance on DRM. But most importantly, will this game have mod support?!?
  8. You are right on the money, IMHO. Moving from a DRM-free release of (the mediocre at best) Prince of Persia to always-online DRM for their current top titles paints the picture of a PC market exit strategy quite clearly. As e.g. Ars Technica among others quite correctly prophesied when PoP was reased, Ubisoft used the game's lack of commercial success to justify implementing their POS... errr... OSP as being "vital" to their PC business. It doesn't require clairvoyance to foresee that the whole OSP fiasko may just as easily be used as the scapegoat which ultimately "necessitates" shutting
  9. I like the one from that mod in my sig.
  10. Jamie from StrategyInformer.com was kind enough to once again mirror the latest version of Heroes Unleashed (PC) at his site. >> DOWNLOAD MIRROR (PC VERSION) << Thanks a lot for your continued support, Jamie.
  11. Well, looking back at this post over a year later, the next installment of the Ghost Recon series will probably not be the answer to our prayers, as it - at least judging from the very few first impressions - seems to move even further away from the original spirit of Ghost Recon. For most of us this does not come as much of a surprise, as Ubisoft seems to take all their franchises into a different - broader mainstream - direction than us die-hard old-school fans had envisioned. I don't feel like pouring more salt into the wounds of disappointment, as tempers have been running high enough on
  12. IIRC, Spetsgruppa Vympel by Earl, MVD Osnaz by Ingeloop, and Udmurtia Spetsnaz by Ingeloop/Migryder feature the Saiga 12K, and it is also available in Heroes Unleashed.
  13. Thumper is back!?!?! Now that is great news for GR fans! Love your mods and can not wait to see your future work! Welcome back, Thumper!
  14. Thanks, guys. Hopefully, it won't take me another year to get the next update ready. Have fun with the new version!
  15. Nice work, Tinker. Thanks a lot!
  16. You just keep'em coming, don't you? Sounds very nice! Thanks a lot, Tinker.
  17. Thanks a lot for the intro, Rocky! So, the next update (v1.0.0b6) for Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed is finally ready. There are no new maps and weapons in the latest installment, but loads of fine tuning and balancing, bug fixes, performance improvements, plus new assets like an overhauled UI, new and improved single and multiplayer game types, and a "Ghost Recon Score" system that measures a player's success in survival (players left alive/wounded/respawns), stealth (level of enemy detection), and kills (percentage of bad guys down) for all SP and COOP game types. The score is displayed
  18. Thanks, mate. Hope I don't have to be offline for so long ever again.
  19. Happy birthday, ZJJ. My present should be in the download section shortly.
  20. Wow, have to try this one out for sure! Thanks a lot, Variable13. Oh, and my apologies for changing the skybox names between versions of Heroes Unleashed. Indeed, the problem mentioned above lies with the new naming convention I implemented for skyboxes in v1.0.0b5. While all skyboxes are still present, their names have changed to indicate weather, time of day, position of the sun etc.
  21. Sounds like this might be Snow Leopard and Rosetta related. All new Macs ship with Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" installed, which does not contain the "Rosetta" engine by default. Rosetta enables old PPC applications to run on Intel hardware, so you'll need it to play Ghost Recon on modern Macs. Don't despair, though - Rosetta is included on the Mac OS X Install Disc that came with your Mac, but you'll have to install it yourself from the "Optional Installs" folder/package on the disk. Hope that solves your problem.
