  1. Probably just domestic issues like segregation, schooling, busing, work related discrimination etc. Its amazing how most Civil Rights monographs don't even pick up upon white resistance to enfranchising blacks and books that take a larger scope (America in the 60s etc.) only mention the 'White Backlash' in passing. There are only a handful of books that go into detail on postwar white working-class politics. Origins of the Urban Crisis, Behind The Backlash are probably the best I've found thus far.
  2. Haha, I thought some much needed compliments were in order if I was to get some assistance! Thanks for the suggestions Ruin. I think I've settled on the 'White Backlash' as there is plenty of books in the University and a fair scope for debate and discussion. I have a feeling a lot of my course will be doing the Civil Rights and Black Power, so hopefully I'll be covering the other side of the coin in detail that most will neglect.
  3. Hola! Frustratingly, I have to do a module on US history. I say frustratingly because I know nothing about US history. So I chose the Vietnam module without really thinking it through, I thought Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now pretty much covered the Vietnam era, but surprisingly, they don't! The other bad part of the module is that we have to formulate our own assignment (2,500 words), which is particularly bad for me as I know nothing about the US in the 1960s. Understanding that gr.net houses some of the most talented, gifted and intellectual members of US society today, I thought it would be a good idea to ask on here about potential research topics. It can't be a massive project (like the entire Anti-war movement, for example) but it has to have a fair bit of debate surrounding it, something I can get my teeth into. I was looking along the lines of Pro Vietnam War protestors but there doesn't seem to be much literature on the subject, let alone debate. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
  4. Heh, I do what I want round here. I see a lot of Partridge in the program, or maybe its just Coogan's way of playing both characters? His exaggerated body and facial movements plus the way he overuses the English language come to mind. But I agree, the lol moments of Partridge (mainly the one liners like Cashback) are absent, but that could well be intentional. Ah, remember the good 'ol days: new episodes of The Office and Alan Partridge on BBC2 midweek followed by Phoenix Nights on a Friday.
  5. Its rubbish. Check out Saxondale (Thurs, 21.30, BBC2) for some proper laughs.
  6. What I wanted the pattern for was not a GRAW2 mod. I just knew that people who frequented this section would be able to help!
  7. I was gutted that Medieval II: Total War didnt run on my computer. Gutted I tell thee. :wall: I swapped it for Sonic Mega Collection Plus though, so it wasnt all bad.
  8. Does anyone have a decent quality swatch of ACU camo. The only stuff I can find on the net is pictures of uniforms, I'd preferably like something a bit more vivid. Thanks.
  9. I should disable guest viewing and make 'em all sign up Or just make the GRAW 2 forum accessible to members only.
  10. Is that style of journalism (cheesy and sentimental) the norm in the US?
  11. I dont think that the pictures are of England. The weather is too nice.
  12. It certainly isn't very realistic. On one mission in particular Fisher SWAT turns a doorway with a man looking directly at it from a few metres away. It doesn't feature in either Chaos Theory or Double Agent. I highly doubt that any Sam Fisher-esque missions are undertaken. It makes for good gaming, but if it was real there would be no need for war as we know it, just a bunch of ninjas running around solving their respective governments problems.
  13. Non compliant? It's one of the very few that passes Acid2 so far. Everything I code seems to go spazzy in Safari, its like everything IE is to Windows, but on a Mac... and now windows as well. lol
  14. Hurrah, another non-compliant browser for web designers/developers to accomodate for!
  15. Congratulations, Swedish Forces was one of my favourite mods for [GR]!

    Folk Music

The last band I talked about (albeit 8 months ago!!) was The Mars Volta, and the genre of music that has gripped me of recent could not be any further away from the psychedelic rock of Omar and Cedric. I used to think of Folk as dainty music that was enjoyed by the 50+ whilst they landscaped a rockery in their garden. Boring. I've since realised that folk music entails all the ethos of punk and can be performed more energetically than any of the new metal garbage knocking around. A case in point is Frank Turner who has the ability to create an atmosphere from his voice and guitar that a quartet of amplified emo bands could only hope for. He writes the most beautiful love ballads, insightful political songs and entertaining examinations of life. Artists of similar ilk that I'm currently enjoying are Chris T-T and Beans and Toast. However, I'm well aware of folk musics long back catalogue and its greats. But where to start is the question I am faced with. Recommend me some folk, folks!

    2 Months Have Passed

Since I last made an entry or even a post on GR.net. The reason is not that I have turned my back on GR.net or anything like that, it is simply because I have been unable to use the Internet regularly. I moved out in September and now reside in a house with three fellow students in Headingley, Leeds. Our Landlady is an old lady of about 70 and she doesn't much care for anything bar the basic requirements needed to rent a house out. The decor of the house is like a Retirement Home and the utilities just about get the job done. However, this is part and parcel of been a lazy-bum-student, and you get what you pay for. What does annoy me is that she refuses us permission to contract a company to install a telephone line for the house so we can use the net. Of course we would be paying for it all, and it would be another 'feature' for the house, she takes the viewpoint that it might spoil the appearance of the house/garden (like its anything special at the moment). So for now, I am only able to access the net at uni, and that time is limited to emails and the like. So just in case you were wondering where I was you now have an answer. Little disappointed there wasn't a 'Where is Avey?' thread though, see to it someone. Keep the Peace.
